Title: firewall conflict
Post by: auntbeefloyd on October 16, 2010, 03:20:16 AM
Hi.  I have heard so much about firewalls conflicting that I am confused.
Will Avast firewall conflict with Windows Defender?  Thanks for any help that someone
may be able to offer!

Windows Defender isn't a firewall so it wouldn't conflict with the avast firewall in the Avast Internet Security suite.

If you haven't got the Avast Internet Security suite, then there is no firewall in avast anti-virus version Pro or Free.

And be sure to turn off the Windows Firewall when using avast! Firewall in the avast! Internet Security.

No, that is the exception to the usual rule, they work together.

Well, common knowledge says you would be right, I thought so also, till I read otherwise.

They made it to work side-by-side with widow's firewall, been using both at once for about 2 months, no problems yet.

Some third-party firewalls turn on/off the Windows FW when you disable and/or uninstall the third-party FW as a safety measure so that you always have a FW enabled.  I don't know of any that conflict with Windows Defender.
