I was running an updated avast 5 free
i got a flash from a friend and when i inserted avast said it detected a win32/sality.NAR virus
just said DETECTED i thought it removed it.after 10 minutes my system restart and restart
I uninstall the program
use avira Rescue System(boot scan)and found 68 virus in drive d and 37 in other drives
Detected but did not PROCTECT my system
my sister's system also ruined getting a DAONOL Trojan while using an updated avast free
i will NEVER use this nice-looking but FAKE antivirus
NOD32 And AVIRA are far better

instead of blaming avast you should learn something more about file infectors like sality,also dont watch porn 8) or what ever you download,rly dunno,you can use nod32,at friday i tested nod32 vs avast,avast detected 3 trojan bankers on my friends pc and eset detected 0,go on my friend,go on

all of them was the copy of sality in system voule information and d:\windows and ...
that trojan(daonol)was in my sisters system 6 months ago and made her reinstall the window
avast didnt catch it
avira could not be installed
nod32 did install and removed it but the windows was not the thing it shoud be so the windows was reinstalled
i know no antivirus is perfect especially aganst new and unkown malwares,but the program should at least protect systems from well-known threats
all of you know SALITY,if your system is not secure agains this very known malware then do you really feel protected and FEEL FREE????!!!!

you've gotta be kidding. Avira pops up with a suggestion to upgrade to the Pro version on every db update. NOD... well, one day it told me that last upgrade was in year 1970, then it also has other bugs. Avast! is far better than NOD at detecting stuffs, Avira has good detection rates (but, uhm, false positives too), but is annoying as heck. So, choose yourself :D Also, no antivirus can detect/heal everything, so if Avast! fails, doesn't mean it's fake. If virus damaged system files, your system WILL likely reboot and stuff.

If sality comes down as one of the known variants then Avast will stop it. If the payload file is a new variant, Avast may not detect it but it will pick up on the infector at work, and should block it. But it is beholden upon you to be cautious - if you are offered a USB with good programmes on it, scan it first with both Avast and MBAM, that should stop the great majority of nasty surprises
I have just cleaned two systems from one location with Virut. The one protected by Avast stopped the infection from spreading, all I had to do was locate and remove the trigger, job done. The other system was using Norton and we had to reformat as it was too far gone, ove 400 files corrupted. So draw your own conclusions from that

i hope everyone got the point
as everyone knows protection is much more important than detection rate
on my case avast detected it,but was unable to secure my system
i checked the infected flash usb with nod32 and showed two samples of of win32/Sality NAR
an autorun.inf and the other name was filmnet.exe
avast detected filmnet.exe but the other varient was WELCOMED in my system
on my sisters case avast didnt even find DAONOL B while being updated and when the sysytem was infected no otherantivirus could be installed exept nod32
i think they have long long way to go to make people FEEL FREE

do me a favor and get g-data anti virus if you need protection otherwise shut up and leave avast alone and no anti virus is 100% perfect as well

If Avast missed some virus, I guess it must be taken seriously even if that virus was missed by other AVs because Avast must always be the best.
Yet, Avast is the best freeware around!

It's hard to believe anyone wouldn't be happy with avast! 5.
I'm trying out AVG 2011 Free Edition. It's quite good.
It's new and has a few bugs, but has great reviews.
I quite like it.

I disagree, Avast is pretty good, and it is Free....begars can't be choosers,..Once I did pay for a anti virus software,
Norton, and it trashed my computer when I installed it..And theyre support was almost impossible to access, and of no help,
I've been useing Avast for almost a year, or more, and for the
first time, I did get a warning, that a virus was being just
blocked, but not removed, so I contacted Avast, got pointed
to these forums, and got the help I needed to get rid of the
problem, and All for free, It makes me sad to see such a ungrateful person, but oh well everyone is entitled to theyer
opinion, As for me I am very grateful for Avast, and it's availability for free, the help in these forums, etc.
I do not know if this,is true,or gossip, but I have heard,
that some of the supposedly "best" and most expensive antivirus
software companies, actually are the same ones creating "viruses" that only theyere software can cure, so that
people have buy theyer software, fortunately theyer are others

Virut is a virus,has avast detected this on your machine or are you just asking? Please dont post in multiple area's as this make's it hard to follow your post's, continuing this in your other post.

It's new and has a few bugs, but has great reviews.

Remember if you switch to another AV to uninstall Avast first. It's sounded like you are running two AV at the same time. Also, maybe use more than just Avast in the future for protection, like add Threatfire or something, because you shouldn't just rely on an antivirus for protection. There's my two cents.

Any anti viruses will misses somes viruses its doesnt mean if its dont detect it that its bad or what ever. Its funny but every products you said now to my eyes i seen both to missees malwares also so if you are here to blame avast! there a function that is called "Send to AVAST Software" in the virus chest so move it right here and they will analys it. Its a better solution and more intelligent way to just complain that an anti virus is missing a sample or what. Do you know how many viruses is on the internet ? There not any numbers to say it because there so manyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...
I hope you will understand now because if you dont i will find u thousands of virustotal with scan that avast! did catch and others not.

i just think where USBs are concerned,you can never be too sure with any anti-virus program.i have to work with USBs everyday,and i can't help it.so i am always apprehensive about inserting it in my computer..these days i have Avast5 and MBAM..i just hope that would be enough to protect my pc

@phyniks: I understand you have when you antivirus is missing detection of some malware, I had same filling a few years ago when avast missed to detect 'Vundo' in my system, but, else than blaming avast! for poor detection, you can help them resolve this problem by sending those malware (Compressed in ZIP, RAR or 7Z format, password protected with password in mail body too) virus at avast dot com , by taking this action you will save your computer for future attack against this malware and also save 130 million users else from this malware.
I see Iran's flag under your name, so I guess why you are saying NOD32 is best for you! because everyone else is using too and they ('They' is referring to an unknown people!) say it's best, huh? ;)
If you want to use Free and legal antivirus, stay with avast, if not and you don't go for pirate software, choose what you like.

i ve tested lots of antiviruses,norton,kasper,bitd,avira,avg,panda,vipre and i found NOD32 smoother and more sensible
that's my opinion and i dont wanna argue
i know it is not the most powerful(compared to gdata and avira) but i m sure it is stronger and better than avast
no one can ignore their reputation while avast has never been in top three
last year according to AV-COMPARATIVES.ORG eset scored THIRD after NORTON and KASPERSKY
no one can disagree with that if he is somewhat rational
but i hope avast can improve to become number one some time,but can it...? ???

Well, I agree when compare "Performance" and "False-Positive", ESET is one of the Top-3 in the list, ESET is a light-weight without many False-Positives (Low FPs in price of low detection rate too).
As you have seen in my signature, I use Avira Premium Security Suite in my Host machine because of it's detection rate (which has been best, always!) and light performance impact, comparable to ESET and even sometimes better since it has better quality.
I've found many bugs and lack of detection in ESET, also, to choose an Antivirus to install on a computer, a pirated version of ESET is not a good choice, when ESET can be cracked to use and it cannot protected itself from being cracked, how you can trust it to protected your computer?
For a free Antivirus, I highly recommend you to use avast free + Malwarebytes Antimalware to have best protection to even beat ESET in protection and performance ;-)
About that you named G-DATA, it's a protection made for enterprise systems and network with too many FPs and running 2 AV engine in same time (avast + BitDefender) made for Administrators to watch every suspicion file. (Like TrustPort which use up to 3-5 Engine on your demand).

I suggest you install AutorunEater (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Autorun-Eater.shtml). (The link is softpedia. At the moment the authors' site is unavailable; wordpress (the host) seem to be having some "issues".
The program will detect and block a malicious or suspicious autorun from actually running, and thus prevent it from transferring a malicious payload from a USB stick to a computer with AE installed.

After play with PC-World reviews after a while, you will find it's a paid test.
You can see even they have rated Avira lower than some weak antivirus. also, this is review of avast 4.8, avast 5.0 has new engine to detect new malwares (beside all of the VDF updates with new generic detections).

avast has never been rated No 1 or at least in top three in any relieble review and you can't argue
i did not say nod32 or any other AV is perfect.i said there are better softwares and i proved it for anyone who WANTS to see
offcourse eset(and any other antivirus) has missed and will miss some threats but its protection is better(not perfect) and comparing to avast,it is of better quality and a more ideal choice.
the story is the same comparing norton,avira and kaspersky with your favourite software(but not avg,in my opinion)

2-in it's last version,whenever the software finds a malware the new "system test" window will be opened and this will be bad if there are lots of threats and these system exams will interfere with each other and will cause the system to hang especially if your ram is not that great,so in my opinion avira's detection is really SUPERIOR(it deserves the word) but it's removal is not that good in the new version

But for your questions:
Q:1-the download speed is very low at the start,offcourse it increases after some spell of time(approx 10-15 min):
A: Avira first download files into it's cache to scan and then deliver to your browser or download manager, so you will think it has slow things down, but it's not true. a file which take 5 minutes to download without avira, will take 5 minutes with Avira too, but only you will not see download progress in your own download manager but you will see download progress in avira if you enable option 'show progress'. when Avira is installed you will see 0% and then 100% in your download manager, may be annoying if you use a very poor dialup.
Q:2-in it's last version,whenever the software finds a malware the new "system test" window will be opened and this will be bad if there are A:lots of threats and these system exams will interfere with each other and will cause the system to hang especially if your ram is not that great,so in my opinion avira's detection is really SUPERIOR(it deserves the word) but it's removal is not that good in the new version
Never had such problem, just guard give you a popup and you have 2 option, remove or details, if you click remove it will do a very quick scan and remove that malware, if you click details, it will give you details after check the process and it's loaded modules and give you option to what to do. if multiple threat is being detected, it will combine them.

(version 4.8 is tested).(please don't tell me varsion 5 scores better,that avast was compared to avg8.5 ,avira 9 ,norton 2010 and nod32 4.0 and all of them now have more powerfull versions)
When my system ruined because of a well known threat using an updated avast,what i PROFESSIONALLY did was changing the security software and what I humanely did was to alert you,my friends,about your susceptibility to threats. :D
