Title: Avast unable to connect to the internet, Squid Proxy + Password problem
Post by: egress63 on October 19, 2010, 07:44:01 PM
Hi Guys,

I'm not a first time Avast user (had used it previously on my old comp). Got McAfee with the new one, got sick of it and here I am again - back to trusted Avast (version 5.0.677). Anyways, the problem is this:

I connect to Avast using my college's wifi thru a Squid Proxy (2.6.Stable21) using a password. So, in my Avast settings, I did the following
1. Opened Avast Settings
2. Went to Updates
3. Went to Proxy Settings
4. Selected "Specify proxy server"
5. Type: HTTP; Address: 172.16.50.50; Port: 3128
6. Authentication Type: Plaintext; user: ********; password: *********
7. Ok

Then, I tried to activate Avast. No cigar.  :(

Changed the authentication to NTLM. Still no cigar. I don't know what am I doing wrong. My firefox continues to work fine - but avast cannot connect! Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,
Egress

Ok, an hour later - I tried it again. Working mighty fine.

Hmmm.. This is odd.

Ah well - problem solved!
