Has Avast Home been tested on XP Home, with AMD 64, and with SP2?
I'm thinking of doing it but just checking.
I did upgrade a different PC already with XP Pro with SP2, and it works fine. What I find interesting about the upgrade is that it was a 266 mb download, but it added only 37 mb to XP Pro. It does want to make a backup for you if you want, so I had it do it to a different partition. The backup is 346 mb.

Welcome to the forum.
Has Avast Home been tested on XP Home, with AMD 64, and with SP2?
As far as I know, there are still Prob. with AMD 64 and SP2.

Laser, the current version of avast won't work correctly on this config (XP SP2 + AMD64) unless you remove the /NOEXECUTE flag from c:\boot.ini...
This will be fixed in the upcoming build.

Thanks, will you make some kind of post concerning this update when it's available or has been done? I Think I have autoupdate turned off for newer versions.

I'm sure there will be hundreds of posts here... many folks are eagerly awaiting this update for months! :)
(not because of this particular issue but because of many other new things that it will contain...).
Cheers,

So what exactly is the problem? I noticed it won't scan files using a boot scan, will it not scan files at all?

No, unless you disable the new DEP (Data Execution Prevention) feature. You can disable it on a per-process basis, though. Like you could add ashServ.exe, ashAvast.exe, ashQuick.exe, ashSimpl.exe etc. from the avast folder to the exception list.
Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance Settings -> Data Execution Prevention.
Thanks
