I have avast 5 pro (5.0.677) and after recent updates I have no connection to any email service!!!
Even if I stop avast from running at all!!!
All the rest of browsing seems normal....really bizarre ...any help

What else are you running ? what were you using before avast ? Firewall anti adware etc.

Did you disable Avast's Self-Defense Mode? Did you uninstall Avast? Did you disable a shield(s)? Can you explain what you did with Avast in your quote above?
If you disabled the self-defense mode or uninstalled, I hope you enabled Windows Defender (an MS antivirus) to protect you in the meantime so you have AV protection.
What other antivirus (AV) and firewall (FW), trial AV, FW, and other security software do you currently have or did you previously have on this machine?
What is your OS, 32 or 64-bit?
How do you normally connect to the Internet?
What type of email service do you use? Thank you.
