Title: Problem with Web Shield
Post by: malijopin on October 22, 2010, 07:15:37 PM
After downloading the latest version of Avast and restarting my computer I got a message from Avast Error 10106. It also said that i should check AvastSvc.exe if it was blocked by Windows Firewall. I did that and there was no block for Avast. When i reinstaled avast it worked ok but when I updated it I got the same problem. Help anyone?

OS: Win Vista Home Premium

Do you get the same Error again and again?
Can you use your browser without any problems?

Try a clean install.

Easy steps how to make it work again!

1. Uninstall Avast! and restart
2. Download this http://public.avast.com/~forejt/aswClear.exe
3. Then download these Softwares
CCLEANER:
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
DISK DEFRAG:
http://download.cnet.com/Auslogics-Disk-Defrag/3000-2094_4-10567503.html?part=dl-6267754&subj=dl&tag=button
4. After installing this, run the ASWCLEAR.exe and restart
5. After Restart, run CCLEANER - You will see to the left there is TAPS. Look for "REGISTRY" Now, clean up Registry(BACK IT UP BEFORE CLEANING IT)
6. Now run Auslogics Disk Defrag - This will clean your system up(look for errors etc) but also speed your PC up.
7. Restart
8. Reinstall Avast!

Report back if any issues. ;)

Did as you said worked great until i restarted my computer. It showed the same error again.
Could it be something with the windows firewall?

This should NOT be happening with the new Update - I have it working fine with newest. ;)
And yes, you are unprotected with the Webshield off/not working, this your number 2 line of defense - It's scanning the webpages you visit with downloadable content - But the File Shield can still kick in. ;)

PS. I messaged DavidR - He should help you when he's online - But for now, don't go into any suspicous Websites/links. :)
