Title: windows XP freeze
Post by: Quepena on October 23, 2010, 08:40:03 AM
Hello. I read the forums and find no solution. After upgrading to version 5 my windows XP freezes. Do not start any program or I can turn it off. Does anyone know why?. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the problem persists. I did not want change because the version 4 worked very well, but I need an antivirus so I can not wait too long.

Hi, Quepena

Which version of avast have you installed? Free, Pro or Suite?

Do you have any other security software on your machine other than avast?

Here are my details

Windows XP SP3
4 GB RAM (3 max in XP)
Version 5.0.677

And yes, reboot, problems, reboot, problems, uninstall, install, reboot and then I can not do anything. Safe Mode, stop avast services and at least so I could do something.

What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including antivirus (AV), firewall (FW), and other security programs?  If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor's uninstaller's tool or another way)?

This morning was in a hurry. The problem is that the computer starts, the pointer moves, I can click any icon but nothing starts. I can not turn it off. I had the version 4 of avast. Long before the virus shield. And long my firewall is ZoneAlarm. With version 4 never had the slightest problem.

I have used Avast 5 in co-ordination with Zone Alarm, and it does pose a serious problem on old XP machines.

I had the same problem as you, and so I uninstalled Zone Alarm and simply got in Comodo, and everything was fine.

I think the problem is that there is a conflict with Avast Network shield and Zone Alarm.

Cheers

I suspected something. I prefer to uninstall avast and find some support anivirus Zone. Thanks.

Well, Zone Alarm seems to have a problem with most antivirus programmes other than its own.

I would recommend you use Comodo with just basic firewall settings and not Defence +, this serves you better than Zone Alarm, no pop-ups and no tension. :)

But, in the end it comes down to you. But I would strongly suggest that you give Comodo and Avast a go, they make an excellent couple.

Cheers

Just supporting what is genuinely good.
well, is that I have licensed Zone Pro ... I will not give another.

In that case you should not use an additional real time AV.

It seems that the system responds. I uninstalled and reinstalled without the network shield and behavior shield, and I checked the box to load the service after charging another services, and ready.
Indeed, the Zone Alarm scans only spyware.

Thank everybody for the help !!!
