Title: Problem with registration
Post by: sirtiksalot on October 23, 2010, 10:39:54 PM
My registration is about to expire in a few days, so I'm trying to reregister, but it won't work.

On the Maintenance tab under Registration, I click the "Register Now" button, and it pops up a window asking me to Reregister or Upgrade.  When I click on Reregister, it opens a small window saying "Retrieving information, please wait..." and then it goes right back to the Maintenance tab again.

I tried the following steps from another forum post:

Easy steps how to make it work again!
1. Uninstall Avast! and restart
2. Download this http://public.avast.com/~forejt/aswClear.exe
3. Then download these Softwares
CCLEANER:
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
DISK DEFRAG:
http://download.cnet.com/Auslogics-Disk-Defrag/3000-2094_4-10567503.html?part=dl-6267754&subj=dl&tag=button
4. After installing this, run the ASWCLEAR.exe and restart
5. After Restart, run CCLEANER - You will see to the left there is TAPS. Look for "REGISTRY" Now, clean up Registry(BACK IT UP BEFORE CLEANING IT - CCLEANER WILL ASK YOU FOR BACKING IT UP, DO THIS - SAVE THE BACKUP IN A NEW FOLDER)
6. Now run Auslogics Disk Defrag - This will clean your system up(look for errors etc) but also speed your PC up.
7. Restart
8. Reinstall Avast!

Everything completed perfectly with no errors at all, but now I'm back to my original problem when I try to update the software.
Please help!  This is extremely irritating!!!

Hi, sirtiksalot

If Re-registration from avast UI doesn't work, you can register it from avast website.

Here is the link, http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php

Make sure you enter valid e-mail address as your license key of avast free will be sent to this address.

Hope this helps

@ sirtiksalot and welcome to the forum.  :)

What product of Avast are you using (Free, Pro, or AIS)?

The best method is to be on the Internet (online) when trying to register.  If you do the off-line method, you must use the same email you used in the past.

Below are instructions for how to insert your license or register for Avast (depending on your product):

Free:  http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php (http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php)

Pro:  How to register avast 5 pro on page 7 – 8
http://ll001.avast.com/files/documentation/quick-start-guide-pro-en-ww.pdf (http://ll001.avast.com/files/documentation/quick-start-guide-pro-en-ww.pdf)
 http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=475 (http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=475)

AIS:  Once you have purchased Avast Internet Security 5.0, you will receive an email with your license file attached to the email address specified during the purchase process.  You need to have Avast Internet Security 5.0 already installed on your machine to insert the license file into the program according these instructions: http://support.avast.com/index.php?languageid=1&group=eng&_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=476 (http://support.avast.com/index.php?languageid=1&group=eng&_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=476)

Converting 4.0 License to 5.0 License: Inserting License for Avast Pro 5:  http://www.avast.com/resend-license.php (http://www.avast.com/resend-license.php).  Make sure you use the same email as you used to register for the 4.0 license.

If you received a license from an Avast Reseller (legit reseller and license): http://www.avast.com/resend-license.php (http://www.avast.com/resend-license.php), fill in the form giving your same email and 4.8 Pro License key and they will send the new license file to you (presumably they will check you have a legit 4.8 Pro license first).

Also make sure that you check your email spam folder and use a valid email account.  You do not have to uninstall and install Avast to do this as long as your current product is valid.

If you continue to have problems, you can also contact Avast http://www.avast.com/contacts (http://www.avast.com/contacts) - Sales Inquiry, or if you live in the US or Canada click on the iYogi links for phone numbers.  Thank you.
