I love the screen saver scanner mode but I am having a little difficulty. When my screen saver kicks on Avast starts scan but when I start using my machine again it continues a background scan until it is completely finished. I do not see the program running in the task manager and when I open avast manually there seems to be no indication that it is running. Do I have a setting wrong or is there something amiss?
Avast - 5.0.677
Windows 7 64-bit
Maybe I need to shut the screen saver off but that is one of the main reasons I use avast.
Thanks

I am running it on winXP and have not noticed that. The only thing i have done is unchecking the loop scan
-
Happens here often so I hit the enter key a few times and VOILA.
-
I have tried unchecking the loop but that seems to not help. Enter does nothing either.
-
Interesting... what (real) screensaver is specified in avast! settings?
-
I have it set to windows mystify.
-
Today, screen saver wouldn't stop so I hit enter/ enter--nothing.
Control-alt-delete brought up Task Manager with the message "Screen saver not responding". I didn't have to do anything, the screen saver just stopped.
-
Well.. My screen saver does stop... its just that the virus scan does not. I pull up task manager and there are no applications running and I am not sure which process or service is performing the scan. When I open the Avast program there is no indication there that a scan is being performed. The only way I know this is happening is the constant disk activity and the announcement when the scan is complete. I finally had to switch screen savers so stop the performance slow down.

I have never needed the Screen Saver scan on Windows 7 as I much prefer the resident protection avast! offers. 8)
If I want to do a scan I use the Quick scan and only once have I needed Full scan when I installed avast! ages ago.

Why don't you try this?
1. Open Avast GUI and go to settings
2. Under "Basic" tab tick Special Scans in Avast! user interface.
3. Go to Scan Computer/Scan Now/Screen Saver Scan and select more details.
4. Click on settings and go to report file.
5. Tick Generate Report file and name it. Tick hard and soft errors.
6. The path to the report file is: C:\Users\All Users\Alwil Software\Avast5\report (using windows 7)
Maybe the report will give you some kind of clue as to what is going on. In the report file, take note of the time in which the screen saver starts and stops. Compare it with the time on your computer. Then you will know if Avast continues to scan after the screen saver is shut down. And may show you other info in trying to solve this. Have you tried switching to a different screensaver with the Avast scan enabled? Just wondering if that particular screensaver could be causing the problem.
