Title: Got Bamital-AM viru8s in winlogin and explorer.exe. Can someone help?!
Post by: waterskier19 on November 14, 2010, 12:57:35 AM
Hi Guys,

Hoping someone can help me, and that I can avoid re-installing windows.

Somehow I got the Bamital-AM virus and it has infected explorer.exe and winlogin (AVAST catches it as soon as a browser is opened).

I have run the virus scan (full) and it only picks up the virus in these two areas, but because they are system files - it won't clean them (Read only error).

My Computer is a 32 bit Windows XP box Service Pack 3.

AVAST only reports the virus when I open an internet browser (I read that it activates when you open a browser).

I have gone into Safe Mode, ran Malwarebytes (saw a few things and removed them) and re-ran the virus scan (Still have the virus).

Hoping someone can guide me on what to try next.

Thanks
Ryan

Dr. Web saved the day - I ran a complete scan in Safe mode, it caught the bad files and fixed them. Just ran a full virus scan with Avast and no viruses detected.

Thank you!
