Title: sounds
Post by: Friedamom on November 22, 2010, 11:47:05 PM
I changed the update notification sound to a windows sound.  Now I want to change it back to the man saying the avast has been updated.  How do I do this?

Disable the self defense module (Settings > troubleshooting).
Delete the file (sound).
Repair your avast installation through Control Panel.

Tech..I tried what you suggested but could not find the place to delete the file (sound).  I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but it stays with the Windows sound.

File deletion through Windows Explorer.

the real question here now is:

did you change the FILE or a setting in Avast itself?
if its a setting then you have to look in the GUI for it

since you say you reinstalled avast i have to logically conclude that its your setting that is kept in registry and not a file that you changed
another logical assumption is that since you didnt know you have to disable the avast self defense you could never have replaced the file in the first place if you actually changed the file, hence my first question :)
