Title: avast blocks utorrent's upnp
Post by: sapient on December 12, 2010, 07:00:15 AM
I am trying avast IS before buying, since my previous IS (kaspersky) was too cumbersome. I am having the following problem, since I installed it: upnp port forwarding is not working any more in utorrent. It is working fine with other applications. In utorrent, the log shows several unsuccessful attempts, but my router's log does not show any attempt to open a port via upnp. So it seems that the attempts are blocked before reaching the router. This only started happening when I installed avast, and only with utorrent. Other programs can be seen attempting and successfully opening ports on the router log. I have set avast firewall to allow all communications for utorrent (it was the default anyway), but still, the upnp attempts do not go through. Please help. It is a pity if this cannot be resolved, since I otherwise like avast.

If you set firewall to default - Work (Medium Risk Zone), it should help.

my firewall is set to home, so making it more strict (work) is not helping (i tried anyway)

I can replicate this issue as well.  Home firewall setting and utorrent upnp requests are being blocked.  Router upnp works fine.

EDIT: Please ignore my post.  UPnP does make it through just not the same way it used to.  I verified that it is indeed getting set on the router.
