Greetings,
Today purchased, downloaded and installed AIS.
After I add the license file and it reboots, AIS is now telling me my license is expired.
It will not accept the license file when I attempt to add it.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hello jhp40,
1. check your system date, time and make sure it is right.
2. Were you using avast before?, if yes, which version?, and did it expire while you were using it?
-
Hi nmb - system date and time are correct.
This was my first time using avast.
-
Install again from scratch:
1. Download avast internet security from here (http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe). (If you already have the latest, then no need)
2. Download avast uninstall utility from here (http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear5.exe).(Disconnect from the internet after downloading the required files.)
3. Uninstall avast from add/remove programs.
4. Start Windows in Safe Mode
5. Open (execute) the uninstall utility
6. If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
7. Click REMOVE
8. Restart your computer into normal mode.
9. Install avast IS from the setup you have downloaded in step 1.
Do not install the license key yet. Register for a trial version. If that works, install your genuine license key.
Let us know what happened.
-
Thank you. I will give that a go and see what happens.
I will be back with the results.
-
The trial install is showing the subscription is expired.
But, the expiration date is 1/19/2011.
This is becoming slightly frustrating. I have spent the last four hours attempting to get this working.
-
Try rebooting the system once - sometimes it does work.
-
The reboot didn't improve anything.
-
Hi
This happens to me sometimes
Are you trying to insert the license DURING the install process?
If yes, for some od reason, its dont accept the license
Please try a double click in your license file AFTERyou have instal and reboot
Thanks
-
Which security software did you use previously?
-
I have not tried to input my license file after the reboot.
I just now tried the doubleclick on the license fiel, but it would not install.
-
Which security software did you use previously?
Norton 360 and before that mACfee
-
Run and remove all the remnants found using these 2 tools.
1. Norton removal tool (http://ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe)
2. Mcafee removal tool (http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe)
-
I had run the norton tool previously, and I will run the Macafee tool now.
-
Try the following
1 when it ask for the license path on install process just locate it and double click on
After the conclusion of install process the computer will reboot
Once windows and AIS starts again please , double click in your license file
If you se some kind of window asking if you agree to insert your license data, just click yes
AIS SHOULD work normally now
-
The tools are just to make sure that it is not the remnants which are interacting. There something else which is not cooking good. Try what vecchio has suggested because he has experienced it.
-
No good. It still will not take the license file.
Maybe I should go back to bloatware mcafee. It never gave me this much problem on install.
This is rediculous. $30 wasted.
-
I tried every possible thing I could do with this problem. Contact avast support team here : support@avast.com , may be they can solve your problem. If that doesn't solve either, you can contact sales@avast.com for a refund. But I strongly recommend you contact support@avast.com - they sure will help you.
-
I have contacted them by email, but they have not replied.
I have even tried signing up for a trouble ticket, but my registration never completes (I never get my email confirmation)
i have work I need to do and need to be protected to do it.
It is BS that I buy a license and it "expires" the same day!
-
They sure will. Please wait for a day and again message them.

I don't have a day to wait for a response. I'll download macafee - it has worked for me in the past - not like this piece of crap avast.
I'll chalk up the $30 I wasted on this to experience. People talk crap about macafee, but it has never failed me as bad as avast has today.
-
Btw, you can try installing the beta and see if it works out for you : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=67984.0 I'm sure this is a temporary problem.
-
Thanks, but no thanks. I didn't pay for a BETA version.
Yes, it is a temporary problem, as I am going to another AV vendor. You need to test thoroughly BEFORE release.
Avast is crap. Flush it.
-
You can try one last thing, Request for resending the license : http://www.avast.com/resend-license.v2.php

I have already done all that.
A total waste of time.

Avast 5.0.677 is working fine on 99.9% of system's so there has to be some conflicting issue with some other software on your system, please run the removal tool's for your previous av's from here in safe mode http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/ what is your firewall? what version of window's are you running?

First, calm down.
What happens when you request for a license? I mean do you get any email back?
Where did you buy the avast license?

I received the license just fine. AIS won't accespt it. I bought AIS from the AVAST website.
I am on Win XP SP3.

Right click the license file, open it in notepad(click edit). Search for the string "License creation date" (without quotes) and check the date mentioned next to that string. Also check the date next to the string "Update license expiry date:"
Do not change anything in the license file. just close the notepad after verifying.
Is it what it has to be?
