Title: Smtp Error

Windows 2000Pro
Outlook express 6

After running Mail Protection wizard and getting the now infamous error message at boot-up here it is what seems to have taken care of the issue

Co to Control Palnel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services > Edit port settins from 25 to 26 at the "Default SMTP Virtual Server" properties at the "advance" and "conection" tabs save and Reboot......and see what happens!

It seems to have worked fo me.....time will tell-

I still can't get Avast to scan outgoing on ANY of my mail programs.  :(

The anwser might be on your post......How many email programs do you run out of the same box?...I could try to help you, but I need more info;.........if it does not work in your box, still may work in others; .........What recipe are you cooking  in your box?

Actually.. I just got it working after writing that.  I changed UseDefaultSMTPserver... or whatever it was... from 0 to 1  now it scans outgoing.  go figure

It is all in the help file

"If your e-mail program supports SMTP authentication, and also makes it possible to set a different login name for SMTP than for POP, insert the line: UseDefaultSmtp=0."

I actually had to change it's value to 1 instead of 0

Good so you dont need password autentication
