Wow they added incremental backup option with the free version. Scheduling is also there which is another plus for a freebie. It's worth giving it a try i would say. Infact i'll test the program and i'll report back... ;) I also have an older Acronis version and i just don't feel like paying for a new version every time, especially with all these nice freebie backup programs that have come out in the last few years. I'm thinking of putting Acronis on my old XP machine and use one of these excellent freebies on my main rig. Thanks for the heads up on this one Speedy. :)

Okay seems like a very nice program, very clean and simple GUI and it appears to be working just fine. Made a 17GB image file from my system partition which has 28GB of data on it, not bad at all(normal compression level). It took 8 minutes to do a full system partition backup which is approximately the same as with Acronis TI.

Please note that the program does support incremental backups but ONLY with file backups and not with system images. Scheduler works fine. Also note that the program supports sector by sector backups.

Okay checked their forum and apparently they are still developing the incremental update feature for partition backup so we can expect that in one of the next versions, that is if they can get it right of course. ;D

About the restore option, i wasn't brave enough to go through with it. Why ? After i selected which HDD i wanted to restore the image to, i was presented with a screen that shows how the layout of the HDD would look like after the restore. Problem is i have multiple partitions on that HDD and the screen was only showing the system partition and the rest of the space on the HDD was marked as UNUSED. UNUSED ??! Are you freakin kidding me ? I have 500GB+ of data there for Christ's Sake !!!  ::) So i am really not sure if that means it is gonna get rid of those other partitions and ruin my HDD layout. Have to ask on their forum i guess.

I'm looking for a program that make full disk (all partitions) backup (not image).
All that I've found need to delete all partitions in the destination driver. But it's my backup driver, I just want do to do a disk copy, not delete all the destination driver. I can make partition by partition, but I was looking for one that make full disk or, at least, save the operations into a task.
Do you know any?

@Speedy: I am waiting for a reply in their forum. I will let you guys now when i get an answer.

@Tech: I am not sure i am following you... This program can backup your entire HDD not only the partitions if that is what you mean. It has sector by sector function aswell so you can make an exact clone of your hdd.

I saw that in the screenshots.
But does it delete the destination drive (partitions) before making a backup of the source disk? (like Easeus Partition Master Home Edition and Wondershare Disk Manager, for instance).

My poor English...
I have a notebook with 250Gb of disk on 6 partitions.
I have an USB drive of 640Gb for backup.
So, I want to separate 250Gb of the second one and make a full backup of my notebook disk.
Problem, when I do that, all the other partitions in the backup drive are deleted, i.e., the programs delete all the partitions on the 640Gb drive to copy only 250Gb, letting the other space as non-partitioned. Of course, the other 390Gb is used with other backups, videos, etc.
Got it?

OK got it.  ;D If you read my replies above you will see that i have the exact same concern. I don't want my other partitions that are on the destination HDD to get deleted. That is why i didn't go through with the restore. I made a post on EASUS forum asking them just that. Waiting for a reply... BTW Acronis and Ghost(which i used in the past) were both able to simply restore that single partition, they left the rest of them well alone. Which is what i would expect from a backup program, if it simply restores that single partition and deletes the rest of them that are on the same HDD than the program is, i am sorry to say utter crap.  ;D

Anyway while i wait for a reply on the EASUS forum i will take a look at their competition.

Paragon Backup & Recovery 2010 Free Advanced - http://www.paragon-software.com/home/db-express/

The feature set seems nice, even better than EASUS program, this one has differential backups at least.

Acronis Disk Director does not make full disk copy as far I remember.
Acronis True Image perhaps, but it's an image not a partition restore.
Ghost... I have shame to say I've used a Symantec product ;D

I made a post on EASUS forum asking them just that. Waiting for a reply...
Thanks.

I switched all my image type backup from Acronis to Macrium Reflect http://www.macrium.com/default.asp , http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp The free version does only full backups, but has the usual restore and browse capabilities.  You can also choose whether to copy the unused sectors or only those actually used by the file system.  It seems much faster than Acronis also.  :)

@Tech: OK i see i still didn't quite understand you, you are talking about cloning here... I'm gonna have to get a bit technical then.  ;D

BTW what is wrong with making a full image hdd backup(all of your 6 partitions) and storing it onto your external drive ? That way you will only have one image file to store. When you restore it back to your 250gb drive it will obviously restore all 6 partitions(and the MBR of course).

Don't understand why you want to clone your 250GB HDD onto your 640GB one, yes of course it will delete the whole disk(and it always will) since it is a CLONE you are trying to make. Let me explain it to you... When you make a clone of your HDD it literally makes a clone of everything, what that means is that all the data from the hdd is copied into the clone INCLUDING the partition table layout. Do you see where i am going ? When you copy that clone to another HDD it will also re-arrange the partition table on that drive to be exactly the same as on the original source drive so that means it will destroy the previous partition table layout. It's perfectly logical. That is why it is reffered to as a clone. It is an exact copy.

Also Acronis Disk Director has a disc cloning option, of course it has it. When did it not have it ? ???

@sded: I like Macrium but the last time i tried it, made a restore USB but it was based on some old linux core and it didn't support my hdd's properly(running AHCI mode here). I will give it another try though, maybe they improved the restore CD/USB...

The file could get corrupt. All the backup is lost.
Cloning is much more safe imho and personal experience.

Don't understand why you want to clone your 250GB HDD onto your 640GB one, yes of course it will delete the whole disk(and it always will) since it is a CLONE you are trying to make.
What about a semi-clone then? ;D
I mean, the partition table shouldn't be cloned.
I mean, clone but not delete the full contents of the destination driver.
See, I can do partition to partition and the result is the same.

Also Acronis Disk Director has a disc cloning option, of course it has it. When did it not have it ? ???
Where?

I don't know how your image files get corrupted though, care to explain ? Bad sectors or something ? No actually forget it, we are allready off-topic and will then get even more off-topic, we can discuss for a whole year on how to protect your pc from power surges, what kind of different methods there are for backing up, what strategies etc. This thread is about Easeus Todo...

The file can't be opened and so restored. It was validated after being generated. CRC fails? Bad sectors in the USB drive? Who knows...
I don't want, intentionally, say the name of the product as it should be an isolated episode and I don't want to make FUD.
Just that I've tend to trust more in partitions backups than on image ones :)

OK this is ridiculous. Now i can't even boot into the recovery environment, yesterday it worked just fine.  ::)

From their reply on the forum, they say i need to restore 1 partition at a time, this for me is an obvious design flaw and i am done with this program. They need to work on it more...

Speedy check out Macrium please, many users are saying good things about it and we have quite a few forum members using it aswell. True it doesn't have incremental backups but from what i can tell it works as it should. Cannot say the same for Todo.

Me i've finally solved my weird Windows Backup problem so i will be using that for my backups. It's actually quite good even though it isn't very flexible but it will be fine for my needs.  :)

There is a good USB booting iso files and Backup/Restore tool.
1. Boot iso from USB: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/boot-multiple-iso-from-usb-multiboot-usb/
2. From there, you have Easeus Copy Disk: http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/
3. Also, Redo Backup and Recovery: http://redobackup.org/
4. A lot of other partitions tools. Until now, I do not find: a) how to run Macrium iso from there; b) a disk clone that does not clone the partition table also.

Very glad to hear that, i have also tried it and from what i can tell it works as advertised. It has a differential backup option(personally i prefer incremental but that's just me) plus a scheduler so that's a big plus. The GUI isn't exactly brilliant but it get's the job done. I'd say this is the most feature rich program of all these free ones. It's certainly worth a try. :)

Like i said though, personally i will be using the in-built Win 7 backup option as i finally got it working 100 percent. Had some weird issues with it before but they are all sorted out now.

I'm looking for something like that for my new win7 netbook as it doesn't have a CD/DVD so it would need to have a bootable USB option to restore any back-up image. Though I believe Macrium Reflect is also able to do that, http://www.macrium.com/KB/KnowledgebaseArticle50025.aspx (http://www.macrium.com/KB/KnowledgebaseArticle50025.aspx).
Not really...
Shame that Macrium can't boot from an iso file (in an USB stick) like a lot of others... Will try if I can use UNetbootin to discover the necessary files to use Boot from iso. Post back later.

Yeah I'm still worried :-\ and hoped Paragon Backup & Recovery 2010 Free Advanced will not failed me in the term for all future Windows OS, also I'm asking for Win7 users to do a complete test for me and it up to you as I'm only asking.

Had anybody test the Macrium Reflect v4.2.2952 Free Edition on Win7 according to this latest website ??? http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp (http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp)

@Tech: Why are you trying BartPE ??! Obviously that is based on the old XP and 2003 Server and it won't ever work with Win 7. You need to select the Linux recovery option. WinPE 2.0 recovery disks are only available for the paid version btw...

He right according to their site it said Note: BartPE is only suitable for 32-bit Windows XP and 32-bit Windows Server 2003 environments.

Macrium works just fine on Win 7 Speedy and so does Paragon(at least for me)...

The program(Macrium) offers 3 recovery environments, BartPE(can use with XP), Linux(use with everything including Win 7) and WinPE 2.0(only available on the paid option).

EDIT: You only need the WinPE 2.0 recovery disk if you are running RAID, otherwise the Linux based recovery disk will do the trick.  ;)

Understood man! I have so much to learn about these new features from the free version Macrium and Paragon also I've installed the free Macrium and create a backup, just in case IF Paragon FAIL otherwise I'll go bloody mad >:( ;D

You need to select the Linux recovery option.
But then I need a CD/DVD and not an USB drive... At least, directly, I coundn't manage how to boot from that iso.

Hopefully that little utility will be helpful to convert the CD/DVD image to a bootable Linux USB stick, when I eventually get around to it. I must allocate some time to it or it won't get done ;D

I have as well on my Windows 7 system but I paid for the Acronis True Image Home 2011 upgrade on my XP Pro system and it is working well for me.

I'm not sure it will work. Probably not. The registry is validated on line only that particular day ::)
