Title: Several problems with Avast IS 5.1.864 and Windows 7 64bit
Post by: Hexo on January 02, 2011, 02:29:31 PM
I got several problems with the 5.1.x system....
1. ( @ ) Symbols are missing in the FireFox Browser while i visualize it in the Sandbox!
2. I got one blue Screen after reinstalling avast (Errorcode was: 0x0000000a (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff80002a79cdc).
3. The Behavioral shield is still not working: (Behavioral shield - 0/0)
I checked the registriy: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\aswSP\Parameters\BehavShield is still set to 1
4. Normaly when i copy some files from point a to b (example: C:/ to an other disk F:/) i got a copy speed of about 30MB/sec.) and more. The 5.1.864 slows down the copy speed more then the half (about 10MB/sec.)

I try some clean installations, but without any solution.
I have restored my System back on my latest image (from Wednesday) so i use actually the "old" 5.0.x version.

Sorry that i have post some of those problem in others topics. I think it better to make my own topic

I am using W7x64 but don't have the problems, although using other security software also.  Did you try removing your existing avast! installation from safe mode using the uninstall tool at http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility as part of your reinstallation.  Also, even though you have 5.0 running, were you using something else before?  We are still seeing interference from long-thought-dead versions of things like Norton.

No problem on my XP Pro system. 8)

I did do a clean install of avast! on my Windows 7 system due to Behavior Shield problems though.

I guess you mean before ???

Yes i mean before (bevor means the same but is german ^^ )

I read here in the forum, that also some other users missed the (@) symbol in the browser (point 1)
But the symbol isn´t not only missing in the FireFox. In the Chrome Browser too.

But i think that this is only a blemish.

The other three point are more important for me.
I would like to send avast my minidump of the bluescreen, but i restored my system. So the dump file is away.
I remeber, that the bluescreen came, while i was edit the configuration for the sandbox in avast (firefox was still open). I try to make this szenario again... no way. It would happend again.

I read also, that some other users got the same problem with the Behavioral shield, Avast IS and Windows 7 64bit.
Can avast confirm that problem or they got a solution?

The copy speed... Can some confirm this or is that only a problem on my machine (my PC: http://www.nethands.de/pys/show.php?user=emsfriends )?

Greetz and have great day. I am off to work :-(

Yes i know. The pictures are not working. i have to reupload the pictures soon. The Pictures are linked on a very old server, that exist not longer. I am sorry for that. But the information on this page are correct

To my Problem:
I have formatted my disk on xmas (24.12.2010) and install windows 7 complete new.
After the OS-Install i install avast! IS 5.0.x (without any problem and it run as hell ^^ )
There wasn´t any anti malware installed before.
And yes, i tried to removed my existing avast! installation from safe mode using the uninstall tool but it won´t work. The same problems as after the GUI upate.

Did you install Windows 7 from a Microsoft disk or from a Dell disk that gave you trial copies of other software?  Even if you don't activate things like Trial Norton, users have recently reported interference problems from it until they ran the Norton removal tool against it.

It is something the Avast Evangelists can do to help you.  It is not something that you can do.  We are trying to help you.  ;)

Hi, I have the same OS and Avast version than this user and I'm experiencing something odd: at every boot, icons are being "rebuilt" (Programs menu, folder windows, they show blank for some seconds) and there's a crazy disk activity by Avast (checked in sys monitor) which lasts about 2 minutes. Also if I use the searchbox in Programs menu, I have to wait seconds for results to show up.
Needless to say, just some days ago the system was much snappier and I thought the latest Avast program update could be the reason.

@ redcat

Welcome to the forum.  Have you run any Avast scans recently?  Is your machine acting strange in other ways?

No, just generally sluggish. Thank for the quick reply. I think I'm having the kind of problem described here (Google-translated):
http://forum.avadas.de/threads/2499-Neue-Version-5.1.864-bremst-Windows-Explorer-extrem-aus

So I'm going to uninstall and either reinstall or revert to the previous version.

I would suggest an uninstall and clean install.  Report back on how this works.  Yes, it does sound like the same problem.

If German is easier for you, you can use the link you referred to in your last post and I will alert the Avast Evang. in the German thread to assist you.  Let me know.

I took the safe road and went back to 5.0.667. All seems back to normal (icons are ok, disk is quiet).

No I don't speak German, I was just using an automatic translation but I'll keep an eye on that thread, thank you!

OK...I was translating too.  ;D  Well, at least all is normal under the prior version.  The Avast Team has already been notified about this thread, so they are working to fix the problem.
