I need to reformat my D:\\ drive on my computer, which, coincidentally, is where Avast! is saved. To reformat, I need to stop avast from running.
I can't find an option to do this.
-
Just uninstall it from the control panel, since reformatting the drive will effectively delete it, anyway.
Have the installer file saved elsewhere for easy installation after the drive is formatted.

thanks.
why is it always the simplest things that evade you at half five in the morning? :p
-
Are you sure you want to be Tired In Charge of a computer format at 5.30? ;D
Honestly, at that sort of time of day, I'm doublechecking pretty much everything that might be important. I'm crap in the morning.
(I used to think I was an evening person, but things never got much better after lunch.)

Still having issues reformatting. all i want to do is get rid of ~57 gb of pure unadulterated crap!

What is on drive D: ?
It isn't your Boot drive by any chance ?
As strange as it seems this does/can happen by design or accident.
How are you trying to reformat ?
What errors are displayed ?
-
i managed to fix it. turns out i was running more programs than i thought off it.
The reason i needed to reformat the drive was so that i could free up space to organise my music collection and picture collection, as every other drive has about 500mb free... i collected a lot of crap ^-^

OK, glad that you have resolved it.
