Post by: reddog on August 28, 2004, 01:27:28 AM
 >:(i downloaded sp2 & it won't let me turn on the resident protection. i have avast 4.1 home edition.it still scans incoming mail , though. it also won't let avast in the system tray, which means it won't let it start up!it didn't recognize avast & told me i had to get another virus scanner. i think avast is way better than mcafee or norton. please help!

bob,

Only ZA Pro recognizes Avast.  The freeware version 5.1.011.000 does not.

red dog,

Go into Control Panel/Add Remove and highlight Avast.
One of the options will be Repair.  Choose it and see if a repair of Avast fixes the problem.

Good luck

Techie
He was talking about SP2 not ZA
However, I have ZA Pro and ZA isn't recognizing Avast!

Reddog-
Welcome :)
Here is link to MS KB 299526
How To Re-Create a Missing Automated System Recovery Floppy Disk in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299526 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299526)
(I finally figured out the broken url thing)
You can change your desktop to "classic",makes it easier to use(old style)
You need to be careful using registry cleaners,as you learned the hard way ;)
I use RegSeeker and RegCleaner.
I am also running XP Pro SP2 with no problems with Avast but my firewall is not seen,( Sygate) but it is running so I could care less  ;D
I have links to these and other good programs on my site
