Title: last update is blocking my wireless connection
Post by: wsx123 on January 18, 2011, 01:48:42 AM
Avast was running fine on my desktop and 2 laptops-wi fi setup in the house worked great.
Then after this last update to 5.1.889 all running windows 7 my wireless is being blocked by avast.
My router ip shows up in firewall log as being blocked.
How do i unblock it?
Not a happy camper since I paid $$$ for this and can't connect 2 laptops to internet since update.
I'll go back to free version or something else.

Which is your firewall?
Does removing avast from your firewall applications list and booting help?

the last update block most of my software and I had to uninstall the update in order to free the laptop (running windows 7)again. A second attempt 3 days ago to install the update had the same effect. I am now running the laptop without the latest program update and all is well. this is not ideal.

Have you tried resetting your router?

I'm using Avast 5 internet security so avast is my firewall.
I have unplugged router rebooted windows, restarted router-nothing works.
my home network signal shows up but i get no internet access.
How do I revert back to before update in avast?

Hi wsx, so if you turn the firewall off, everything starts working ok? What network profile do you use (in the firewall?) - i mean - Home, Work, Airport ?

Thanks, Lukas.

No, if i turn the firewall off i get the same problem-can't connect to wireless network.
My desktop internet works fine. The errors below are in my desktop firewall log.
Firewall log shows "block remote (198.168.2.4),remote port 5357,local port 49933,local add (192.168.2.2),TCP in-this is my wireless router-
I had firewall on medium/work and moved it to home. No change

Hi, you suggested that it might work with avast Free - would you mind testing by uninstalling some components first, to find out if any of those are causing your problems.

1) does it help to turn off all avast shields (from the tray icon) ?

2) could you try to uninstall firstly the "Behavior shield" and restart, if anything changes?

Thanks a lot, and sorry for the troubles you have with the update.

Well I uninstalled Avast internet security, then ran the avast removal file, reinstalled Avast internet security.
Had the same problems.
So I disabled behavior shield and firewall on desktop and laptops, still had the same problem. No wireless.
I cleared out the firewall log, changed my password on my router, removed all saved wireless profiles and added back in with new password and they work again.
I'm using the windows firewall.
I'm not turning on the avast firewall or behavior shield till you get all this figured out-
What a pain in the a** this has been.
Last time I pay for Avast!

Disabling the behaviour shield isn't enough as suggested you actually need to uninstall that component.

From windows Add Remove Programs, Change/Remove, select Change and uncheck the Behaviour Shield option, click Next and OK your way out, reboot and that should allow you to use the AOL software. See image, whilst this is for XP the process is the same for other OSes.

well right now it's working with it disabled.
I'm leaving things alone as they are working ok now-thanks for the info.

maybe we've already fixed this problem - I'd like to ask you if you can apply this patch:
- download & extract: http://public.avast.com/~kurtin/public/snx_02/patch.zip
- reboot your computer, go to Safe Mode
- copy snxhk.dll + snxhk.dll.sum into C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\avast5 (replace existing)
- reboot

let us know if it helps, thanks.

I paid money for this.
I'm not going through all that-put it in an update please!

Well that is your choice, all pk is trying to do is get this to you to try and be able to reinstall the behaviour shield, rather than have to await the next program update. Or you can continue with the workaround of having uninstalled the behaviour shield.

You have probably noticed that there is a beta testing process on-going for version 6.0.x right now and as far as I'm aware avast 5.1.889 will be the last 5.1.x program build before the release of avast 6.0.x. This is why I think that pk is trying to get you this now rather than wait.
