Title: Harmful site blocked
Post by: SMac on January 19, 2011, 06:29:12 AM
In the last few days, avast keeps notifying me that "Network Shield has blocked a harmful site." This message has come up twice today. It even comes up when I'm not searching the internet so I think there's something (a virus?) on my computer trying to run something that I'm not asking it to run.

The message says to go to the avast support page for more info but there isn't specific info on this page. I can't work out how to find out more info about the blocked threat.

I've run virus scans with avast and other anti-virus scanners and no viruses have yet been detected (i guess thanks to avast blocking it)?

Is there a way to track down what is trying to run and get rid of it?

The blocked warning message gives the following info:
Object: 119.12.170.250:135/tcp (both messages today had slightly different numbers in the middle)
Infection: DCOM Exploit

What does this mean? Should I be concerned and can I do anything to get rid of this threat?

Many, many thanks!

Nah, you should be okay.  Do a forum search or Google DCOM exploit to see more of what they are about.  Keep the Java and everything up-to-date, you should be fine.

If you want a second opinion, download, update, and run>>http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (http://www.malwarebytes.org/)

Thanks for the reassurance and quick reply!!

I ran malwarebytes this morning and it was clean. Fingers crossed all ok.

Thanks again.
