At times, while visiting hxxp://tv.desitvforum.net/, I get a popup saying that your computer is at risk .... and when I click OK, it starts sort of scanning. I don't know what the problem is. Any suggestions!

don't click on anything!!! this is an obvious spam included in a web site page to get you buy some sort of crap software after running a fake scan. Not mentioning that you could really get into trouble if you download a rogue (fake AV etc...). You should have posted that in general topics, as this has nothing to do with Avast. Please edit your post and make the link unclickable by replacing tt by xx in http ;)
ps: and don't visit that site anymore :)

sound like you hit a rogue or fake scan page, if (do not) you click OK it will prbaly download a file and if you run that it will install a rogue security program
check your computer for malware with this
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50.1 http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
always update the program so you have lates database before you scan
click the remove selected button to quarantine any infections found
you may post the scan log here

As far as I'm aware no it has to be installed if that is what you mean ?
If so I don't know why you wouldn't want to install MBAM, as it is one of the most effective applications against these rogue/fake security alerts.
Also available, a portable version of SAS, http://www.superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html (http://www.superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html), no installation required.
Don't worry about reported tracking cookies they are a minor issue and not one of security, allow SAS to deal with them though. - See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie).

Agreed on MBAM. SAS is terrible though.

I guess you haven't been using or keeping up to date with SAS then ;)
There are areas that it isn't as good as MBAM but other areas where it is as good or better. So terrible I don't agree with without supporting data.

Lets just say I know some good technicians in San Francisco that also say SAS is poor. Mostly because it causes too many registry errors.

registry errors? hmm... I've found that it detects more bad things and removes them more than removing good things. I usually stick to MBAM though anyway. It's faster and very effective.

SAS scans, nothing else, and might be the best anti-spyware existing ::)

May I chime in? Anyone can find someone else who will say, this is good, or, that is good, or that is bad, or, this is bad. Most of us rely on MBAM and SAS for a reason...they work. It's called layered protection. Try it you might like it.
