Title: How I can delete these to registry keys?
Post by: Omid Farhang on February 13, 2011, 12:39:41 AM
How I can delete these 2 registry keys?

Code: [Select]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_IMMUNETPROTECTDRIVER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_IMMUNETSELFPROTECTDRIVER

I tried safe mode, I tried RegASSASSIN in windows boot normal and in safe, did not work, I tried RegAnalyzer from Safer-Networking and no help... how I can delete them? I'm going download ERD Commander, any idea before that? even I cannot change permission in there

Those appear to be left-over of Immunet AV, I've uninstalled it this way: http://www.omidfarhang.com/computer/how-to/uninstall/security/immunet (http://www.omidfarhang.com/computer/how-to/uninstall/security/immunet)

You have to take ownership, as these are legacy keys and effectively owned by system.

The legacy keys shouldn't get in the way.

You have to right click on the registry key and I can't recall if it is Properties or Security, etc. OK it is Permissions and you have to effectively allow Everyone 'Full Control' then you as a user should be able to delete it (see image example).

Weird, I can and have changed permissions before, but that has been in XP Pro and on an account with admin privileges.

What OS are you using?  You will need to find a utility that will let you up the privileges of regedit and run it from the system account.  http://www.windows7download.com/win7-run-as-system/hvvnjrdk.html might work, but I haven't tried it on W7.  Or http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Registry-Tweak/Regedit-PsExec.shtml which is similar to what I used in Vista.

@David: God Bless those days changing files and settings has been easy (XP), win 7 is too stubborn!

@sded: Win7 x86 (ultimate), avast + comodo, I will look at your links tomorrow, it's now 4:07AM here and I'm going to sleep! ;)

I wonder if UAC isn't also getting in the way, I have it on my little win7 netbook and it is proving a pain in the rear even on minimal settings, I'm very tempted to completely disable it, I'm more than capable of looking after myself and my computer.

Perhaps temporarily disabling the UAC and see if that helps.

There's also a nice little registry script tool here that adds some excellent tweak's for windows 7, taking ownership of files, speeding up explorer etc, run once to install run again to uninstall if you dont want it http://www.askvg.com/collection-of-registry-tweaks-for-windows-7/ iv used this to delet the most stubborn files and it works great.
Simply right click any file then click take ownership then right click again and choose delet.
