Title: Windows 7 slow start-up

Always been a fan of Windows 7 but recently it has been giving me so many problems i have even considered going to a MAC, which i swore i would never do. Anyway, upon start-up the network search has suddenly started to take a long time to complete. I know quite a few people who are also having these problems and some blame it on a Microsoft update. Is anyone else experiencing this or know a fix?

Have you tried windows repair/troubleshooter on the network

Have you tried System Restore? Try rolling back to a time prior to when your issue started. Also, I have never seen this network search, can you describe this a little more?

Connected via a wireless router. I have done startup repair, system restore but it doesn't work. The only thing which seems to fix it is restoring the whole system from a backup image but this only seems to be a temporary fix. I know a lot of Windows 7 users are experiencing this problem.

I'm not using a wireless router and directly connected via Ethernet cable.

Yes all up to date. I have since fixed the problem by using Chkdsk in Windows Command Processor and restoring from backup. My system is happy again :)

I'm a little confused ??? I can see restoring making a difference if the current OS has an issue but how does running Chkdsk enter into the picture ??? It certainly has nothing to do with regulating how long it takes to find network,internet, WiFi or any other connections.

"/r = This option instructs chkdsk to locate bad sectors and recover any readable information from them."
Recovering bad sectors isn't the same as repairing corrupt files.

Sorry my mistake i mean't the sfc /scannow command in Cmd Processor. That will replace corrupt/missing system files.

You mean the system file checker function which checks for missing and corrupt files.
Remember that this can also effect your system updates since it restores files to their original state.

Yeah i know but i simply had to do it. Something i don't know what had seriously messed up my system then here and there it would disable Avast. The only way to start Avast again would be to uninstall/reinstall. Done full system scans with Avast, MBAM and nothing came up. I think there must have been a corrupt or missing startup file.

Have you tried delaying avast!'s start?

1 Double click avast desktop icon
2 Click Settings > Troubleshooting
3 Put a check beside Load avast! services only after loading other system services
4 Click OK

Please tell us if it works.

That won't help on Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) SP1

justinlee should stick to Bob's advice.
