Title: Error : Cannot connect to server.

I have windows 2000. downloaded from cnet. everything worked great until I registered, after that the updates gave me that error message. I turned off my firewall and still can't update. any suggestions?

Did you reboot your machine after you installed the software?

What version and product did you install?

How do you connect to the Internet?

Did you have a previous antivirus (AV) on this machine prior to Avast?

Yes I did re-boot
version 5.1.889
connect through a LAN
No previous versions

What is your firewall (FW)?  You state you turned it off.  Are you using anything now?

What is your OS, 32 or 64-bit?

Any other security software on this machine currently or in the past?
