Title: Question related to detection...
Post by: RaLX on July 18, 2003, 07:39:46 PM
Greetins, I want to know if avast! 4 only use pure signature based detection for Files or have any other technique like heuristic or something like that, thx.

ralx,

Avast uses a sophisticated search engine which bases itself on virus definitions.  It is not a kernell oriented process.

The On Line Protection Scanner uses heuristics for the Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange providers.

The Standard shield in the OLPS does not use heuristics but the more common type process.

Simple question...simple answer.

Techie is right, but for example polymorphic viruses could not be found by signutare - to detect them avast! uses routine for each of them. Mentioned routines are hardcoded in vps file.
