Title: auto install?
Post by: longneck on September 14, 2004, 09:43:41 PM
We send laptops to reps in the field that have Avast pre-installed for them. Currently, we image the PC, then install Avast, then send it to them. We would like to include Avast in the base image to reduce our deployment time.

The problem is, if we include Avast in the image, that image is only good for less than 60 days, after which Avast expires. Then we have to redo the image so that the rep is protected until they can buy their key. (We make them buy their own keys.)

If there a way to automatically or silently install Avast with a specific command? If so, we could automate the installation so the 60 days start when the machine is imaged, and not when the image is created.

BTW, our reps love Avast! Most have dial-up and refuse to keep their Norton Anti-Virus up-to-date because it takes a long time to download. But they don't mind the 15 seconds that Avast takes!

You can only do this because avast! Home version can only be used by Home/non-commercial users. You can only install the trial version and, like you said, ask them to buy their key.

You can't 'redo the image' as you will be using the Trial version for more than 60 days.

Well, I'm just an user, maybe you should wait for official Alwil words...
Anyway, I share our feelings to Norton  ;D

That's a major reason why we don't include Avast in the image currently.
