Now replaced by build 6.0.1027: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=73657.0
Hi everyone,
we will soon be releasing a new program update of avast. And as usual, we're making it available for public testing a few days before the official release.
This is hopefully going to be a smooth service release, designed really just to fix some of the issues of the original v6.0.1000 build.
Here's the list of the most important changes:
- solved an incompatibility with ZoneAlarm (WinXP)
- improved installation of the WebRep plugins (especially Firefox)
- solved a crash condition in the avast sandbox
- setup programs now smaller by ~20%
- Community features and the Welcome screen can now be turned on/off directly from program settings
- solved an incompatibility with Outpost firewall
- solved a bug related to the AutoSandbox offer (WinXP)
- gadget can now be removed by simply closing it
- new setup icons
Download links:
removed
You can either install from scratch, or over an existing installation of avast (any version).
Thanks
Vlk
-
Thanks. All is working smoothly. :)
-
Option for showing welcome message at boot time (Windows 7) is back.
Social networks messages and recommendation features are available into the Community settings.
-
don't work with sXe Injected anticheat system on WinXP :-\
EDIT: works one time later use aswclear5.exe but problem back :P
-
Doesn't fix the Private firewall UI glitch. Thanks for the update though :)
-
The update went smoothly. Thanks guys! :-*

Hello Vik.
Are is possible to make Avast to turn off Windows Defender (Windows Vista and Windows 7)when install it.They work together and i got to turn off ... myself.MSE and Norton do that.
Thank you.
....p.s.Verry good job Avast for version 6...Bravo. :)
-
Coccinelle, avast works side by side with Windows Defender. I don't think this would be implemented.
-
Yes Windows Defender work with all Antivirus but have the same Antispy modul....MSE and Norton turn it Off.
Windows Security Center says that they work together and 2 Antyspy modul can slowdown the PC :P
-
I'm currently at v6.0.1000 Free having updated via AvastGUI from 5.1.889 when V6 became available. All is working well, with the Avast install remaining in C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5. Would there be any advantage to a clean install so as to have the more generic install path so future Avast versions have less problems with it's housekeeping?
-
Installed AIS over 1000 with no issues so far. Running with FW off, OA++ active with no problems.
-
Nice, but FF still crashes in Sandbox. This was happening in the latest version of FF as well. I thought this version of avast might fix this.
-
Everything running fine here - including WepRep @ FF 3.6 @ Vista 64!
Thanx!

avast! please pay attention to others glitchs/bugs i did find http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=72009.0. Its would be appreciate to view also the discussion of me and bri about the gadget. Seem like there no resize button on Vista is it normal ? Is that a feature of Windows 7 ?
-
The gadget resizing is indeed a feature of Windows 7. There's nothing like this in Vista.

That is true for MSE but not for Windows Defender. ;)
Working fine on my systems.

just curious when turning off social networking features shouldnt the like button be removed also?? i was hoping that would be included with this option
edit you have to turn off BOTH social networking AND recc checkmarks then the like button goes away.
what else does the recc check mark affect? besides the like button??

This release is working great on my system with an over the top installation, thank's avast.

my mouse scroll not working now using the safe zone browser...

I love this version

Installation over the top of 6.0.1000 has completed and am just about to reboot.
Whilst I have Outpost Firewall Pro, I didn't have any problem with it and 6.0.1000 probably because this appears only to have effected 64bit versions of Outpost Firewall Pro.
-
Thanks. I never would have got Recommended Features from "recc"!
-
Autosandbox is not closing closing handles on my flash drive in this version. Meaning that I have to reboot to allow safe removal of the drive.

Still remain, and can bee seen with process explorer.
Petr knows about this from the previous version, so I gather it is still being worked on.

The "recommend" option is the "like avast" button and the "social" option is the twitter link in virus alerts.

Updated over 6.0.1000. So far no problem. Translation mistake is corrected :)
Thank you avast team! 8)

Nothing at the moment.

okay thanks.

Also have Free running fine alongside Private Firewall 7.0.23.4 under Vista SP2. No issues with PF GUI.
-
i reported a problem in the sandbox settings weeks ago where the same setting option is repeated in both the Paramters section and the Web Browsers section, i dont see it listed as being fixed tho, any news on that?
plus i just noticed that in v6 thers no longer an option to automatically delete the contents of the sandbox when u close the browser, why was that removed? because that was a feature i actually liked to have
-
working fine here too
-
The issue with Outpost firewall is indeed fixed! Thank you!!!! ;D

Doesn't unchecking the top box (or two) clear the sandbox when you close the browser?

alrite, so i installed this prerelease version and the option to automatically delete sandbox contents is now there for me, so thats good.
but there is still the issue of the SAME setting being repeated twice in the 2 different sections of the sandbox's settings

Thank you for new version ;)

can someone from avast(pk-anyone) tell me when or if the win 7 64 bit problem with sandboxing and adobe flash&java will ever be fixed?its been a problem since version 5 began.

I just installed it on the top ot the last version and everything is running fine right here in windows 7...rm

So far so good :)
Only after booting the sidebar crashed ( I never had that before ). Further boots seems to have solved it.

What I did was download and install the 64 bit flash in normal mode and it now works in a sandboxed IE64bit http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10_square.html I have not tried Java as I do not use it
-
essexboy by normal mode you mean not sandboxed or not in ie protected mode?
-
Correct I downloaded the square flash player using a non sandboxed IE9 to the desktop
Installed and then ran again unprotected.
Flashed up the 64 bit browser in a sandbox and Youtube videos played fine
-
ill try that but the thing with that problem with both flash and java is it didnt happen all the time but just enough to be annoying.thanks
java problem still exists, just ran into it.

Two things I noticed on my Win XP (can't post to the "Beta" forum for some reason).
1) Still hangs at XP shutdown
2) After Windows start it takes forever to start programs.
The "file shield" monitor shows that avast is scanning lots of programs all over the HDD.
Seems like it is scanning ALL programs that there are shortcuts for in the Start Menu.
Very annoying. Takes 5 minutes to get mail and web-browser up and running first time.
-
Testing fine here on Xp Sp3 with free and Pro version!

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=72009.0. i added a 5nd now Vlk. Its going crazy those glitchs. I hope that going be fixed.
-
Ohhh... One more thing with the beta:
Once I installed it it scanned all the time (globe keeped turing).
I checked the "file shield" and it was scanning "AvastUI.exe" over and over and over (all the time).
Had to add it to the ignore list to free enough CPU to do anything else on my system :-)

I think it's Cnet's problem or so. Most cnet download links (download.com) doesn't work for me either. This problem has been around for quite a while and my ISP said that it's not their (ISP) problem...

Should I update? Is there any bugs or problems that I should be worried about?
-
None that I have noticed ;D
-
No problems with the overinstall of 6.0.1000 to 6.0.1021. Seems like a solid update.
I'd still like to know the answer to my question about the clean install I posted.http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=73110.msg608588#msg608588 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=73110.msg608588#msg608588)

Updating :) If I have any problems I'm going to use Avast Pro the 30 trail that is on download.com
Edit: If Any problems I guess I will just the installer of 6.0 stable. I have old avast installers on my flash from 5.0 and 5.1 and 6.0 :P
-
Hmmm... Used the cleaning utility to uninstall all traces of avast!
Then installed the beta.
Same problem. The file shield scans ALL .exe files pointed to bt Start Menu shortcuts at boot.
And while it does that it is impossible to do anything (takes all CPU power).
Why is it doing this? Have never seen this in any previous version.
Is there a way to prevent this (programs will be scanned when I run them anyway, right)?
It's very annoying (ok, I haven't gotten the worlds fastet system, but anyway).
BTW: My XP SP3 still hangs at shutdown when avast is active.
I'll try disabling each shield one by one and see which one is guilty :-)
-
I can't run Anticheats systems for Counter-Strike in Windows XP SP3 + Avast 6.0.1000 and 6.0.1021 but in Win7 no problems and can play, I had to reinstall 5.1.889 and works.
Are working on it?
-
Just finished the update :) There was a lag for me at start up. and The Script shiled still doesn't scan websites in IE9...
-
Same problem. The file shield scans ALL .exe files pointed to bt Start Menu shortcuts at boot.
Until avast populates the permanent cache.
To accelerate the process, run a full scanning and remember to mark both options to populate the caches.

Nope. Happends each time I start my computer.
Also it keeps scanning "AvastUI.exe" over and over and over and over.... :-(
I'll attach an image...

Well, most users are happy with updates, bringing new features.
If you're not, nobody forces you to install them, right?
Besides, the world of malware is evolving, it's necessary to react. It's not possible to wait "a few months" to deploy new protection measures.

Development requires updates.
avast updates (and betas) are very stable (in most general).

If there wasnt updates there would be bugs/glitchs and peoples wouldnt be very happy.

An update was needed for XP users in particular. The sandboxing was not working right for one thing.
I don't usually do it but I downloaded this new version and opened the installer. It asked if I wanted to update from 6.0.1000 to 6.0.1021. I said yes and it completed in about 20 seconds and then said a reboot was needed. After the restart everything seems fine and all my settings were retained so I'm happy so far.
One question though. What are / were the social networking features? I selected to not show them and nothing changed at all in the GUI. I turned off the recommendations and the green "Like Avast" button disappeared.

There is some Twitter or whatever icon on virus detection popup which posts someone like "Whoa, avast! just saved my ass" or something similar. I guess you can live without it. ;D

:D This Update version fix one of the bugs of mine and that is the scroll bars being inside of Webrep :D the webrep thing looks like it did in IE8 now! ;D

Updated manually, and it went smooth as silk. I really like the option to have the "Protected by avast!" show on boot. Normally I hate things like this, but with avast!, it looks extremely professional, and I think it's a cool touch! Kudos for letting the user choose.
Great work avast! team. You guys are listening to the users, and it shows..........THANKS!! ;D

This version increases my scan-speed on a quick-scan very much!!!!
6.0.1000 at about 21 minutes
6.0.1021 at about 15 minutes!!!

Yes! Webrep working on 64bit Vista, I knew Avast would get it fixed!
Also full scan on my laptop went from 31 minutes to 15:37 !!!

I have moved the discussion of the XP problem (shutdown and continuous scanning of files) to a new thread, since they where spread on two threads and somehow I think the problems might be linked (as both seems to have with the "file shield"). I have a problem in my Windows Xp Home computer, the problem is that PrivateFirewall never stops to ask to allow AvastSvc.exe... I am going to uninstall this version an re-install and let you know if it solves the problmems since it is impossible to work like this, my coputer does not let me anything.
See attached...rm

I will have to go back to the last stable no beta version, I really can work with this beta since privatefirewall never stops asking me to allow avastsvc.exe

Is this a bug? When this version of avast detects a virus the pop up and sound takes like 3-5 seconds to play. (Might not be for other users but for me this might be a bug) ?

I am just a novice with PF, trying it out on an old Vista computer with Avast! 6 Free, and don't have this problem. Are you running on the "Office" profile? Does it help to go to PF/Process Monitor, right click, and set avastsvc.exe to "allow" there?

I have been using PF for a long time and I am using the last version, my problem is only in my XP computer, see my signature. I don't experience this problem in my Windows 7 computer...
I am using the home profile and setting avastsvc.exe to allow does not help either.
I guess the problem is because something is not digitally signed, that is what PF says..rm

I see there is a new PF 7.0.23.4 that fixed some bugs; probably worth an update. I don't have XP to try anything with. Also worth asking PF support; they seem to respond to trouble tickets very rapidly

You can't update from the GUI, as this is a Pre-Release version.

I didn't look. The avast popup appeared and said it moved the item to the chest. But then got the "outlook stopped responding" dialog box and then outlook crashed. After 4 crashes I turned off the mail shield. Then opened Outlook and found 5 of the 'dhl_label.exe" emails that I seem to get every few days in my junk folder and 4 in the chest. Avast evidently moved them to the chest one at a time before crashing but couldn't handle the subsequent email. I deleted all the emails manually then turned the mail shield back on. I have gotten these emails before with this same attachment and previously it found them and continued on as expected.

Actally gadgets have two sizes in Vista; i.e. large and small. :)
Windows Desktop Gadgets
A gadget has two sizes: small and large. The small size is used to display the information concisely, whereas the large size displays the information in detail. In Windows Vista, these sizes correspond to whether they are docked or floating. When docked, they run in their small size, and when floating they run in their large size. By default in both Windows Vista and Windows 7, the gadget is added to the desktop in its concise, docked state.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd834142.aspx
So my question is:
In Vista can the Avast Gadget be changed between a floating and docked state?
-
I'm right back with new list of suggestions ;)
1* Please add the rootkit scan log so we will can see them in scan logs [someone already asked]
2* Please create a new section in scans named "special scans" and there you will can set-up the special scans there(explorer scan, screensaver...) - who want to go to settings check the show special scans in avast ui when it can have special section (i dont like when it's between normal scans)
3* Advanced settings for Script & network shield. Both need to set-up generating report files (behavior shield also need report file section). Script shield should have possiblity to set-up heuristics and action when bad script found. Network shield should have to set-up excludes.
4* More Options for WebRep - some checkboxes with: warn when the website has too bad votes, warn when the website is unkown, warn when the website contains inappropriate content for children. (why not let it configurable?). Then set-up if will be showed user's reputations or just from virus lab.
5* Make scan sheduling more advanced. Add possiblity for scaning every X hours (like AVG has!). Then I hate when I have scheduled scan for 1:00 PM and I switch on computer one minute later - you have bad luck and you need to run it manually. So you should add possiblity to check when there shouldn't be scan that wasn't runned and when yes then automatically start the scheduled scan.
Please take this just like my stupid ideas but I think that some of them are useful.

But I noticed that now in my dual-monitor setup the pop-up windows don't show up in the second monitor when I move the main UI window to it, instead showing in the first.
Same here with dual monitors.
Also on my setup that is using the ATI Radeon HD 4200 built in graphics card the GUI does not lock on the monitor when you click on the rectangle next to the "X" in the upper right.

This version increases my scan-speed on a quick-scan very much!!!!
6.0.1000 at about 21 minutes
6.0.1021 at about 15 minutes!!!
DJBone
Memory Scan is also a lot faster on this Beta. Down to 62 seconds with Thunderbird 3.19 and Firefox 4.0 Beta12 loaded with about 20 addons enabled and 9 tabs open.

I'm right back with new list of suggestions ;)
1* Please add the rootkit scan log so we will can see them in scan logs [someone already asked]
The logs are in the log folder:
XP –> C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log\aswAr.log
Vista/7 –>C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\aswAr.log
2* Please create a new section in scans named "special scans" and there you will can set-up the special scans there(explorer scan, screensaver...) - who want to go to settings check the show special scans in avast ui when it can have special section (i dont like when it's between normal scans)
What is wrong with where they are now?
IMHO they are scans that only more advanced users would want to tweak...they already have their own 'special scans' section in the settings...
3* Advanced settings for Script & network shield. Both need to set-up generating report files (behavior shield also need report file section). Script shield should have possiblity to set-up heuristics and action when bad script found. Network shield should have to set-up excludes.
Can't comment really on script shield, but I doubt network shield will ever have exclusion lists. The network shield block list is generally reserved for known malware distribution sites, so having an option to exclude something there would not be a good option.
4* More Options for WebRep - some checkboxes with: warn when the website has too bad votes, warn when the website is unkown, warn when the website contains inappropriate content for children. (why not let it configurable?). Then set-up if will be showed user's reputations or just from virus lab.
As you know already, webrep is being improved constantly so things may be included later...

Hello!!
I have tested this release and this issue, that appears with version 6.0.1000, is´t solved
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=72798.0
The problem is that several persons get incomplete listings of files shared on the network, using smb for streaming and sharing files.
Thanks.
Bye.

great update! hope the official build is out by friday! :)
-
I just installed version 6.0.1021 over version 6.0.1000 on Windows 7 (X86). So far everything is working well.
-
Hello,
I inform you that there is a bug in webrep because he is still in English, but had informed me that the translations were completed.
I would like it to be resolved.

Seems a bug. It's in English and it should be in Portuguese as it was already translated in early January, before even version 6 final release.
-
update went fine for me.
-
Hi,
For me the Pre-release version (6.0.1021) did NOT work at all, it keeps freezing and my system hangs so gone back to (6.0.1000)
happy avast user :-)
-
Hello,
As Tech said, there's a bug, and also in the language folder WebRep:
It only has the English language folder "en-US"
I do not know, but I think it must have been an error, and they did not put the folder with the other languages.

Add another GB of RAM and you will be a much happier avast! user.
Even Vista Home Basic can take advantage of 4GB RAM.

I have just installed this version(6.0.1021). Everything runs very well.
Now the gadget works fine. Analysis's speed is higher.
Now I can print from my bank's page when I'm in the Safezone. Before, was impossible.

Anyway, thanks for your reply Scott.
-
confirming that with this build quick scan now as fast as it use to be (with 5.1 and 5.0), ie 50% faster than with the first version of 6.0.
-
Hi everyone,
- gadget can now be removed by simply closing it
Just to expand on what Vik wrote at least with regard to Windows 7 SP1 HP
If you click on the "X" the Gadget closes.
When you reboot it remains closed.
After closing the Avast Gadget if you want to place the Avast Gadget back on your Desktop right click your "Desktop", click on "Gadgets" and then double click on the "Avast Gadget" or right click on the "Avast Gadget" and then click on "Add".
If at any time you want to uninstall the Avast Gadget first close it then right click on your "Desktop", click on "Gadgets", right click on the "Avast Gadget" and then click on "Uninstall".
I did not try the "Uninstall" to see if it works.

does this version fix various BSOD issues (reported by me and others forum visitors) ?
I suggest you go all the way back and read post number one for the fixes.
Your comment was completely useless ...
while the changelog says nothing about BSOD fixes (onboot etc.) i went ahead and tried
BSODs I encoutered are gone
so it seems that some BSODs are fixed, so if You get these, this build is worth a shot
-
If you're having problems with or just don't like the sandboxing in the free version, just turn it off. You'll still be getting the fine protection you've been used to getting from Avast!.
-
okay after 24 hours of use, I can tell that 6.0.1021 beta solved the global speed issues that came with 6.0.1000. Thanks.

To update the program 'offline' you have to download the installer and run it on the machine, that has no connection.
To update the VPS: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/vpsupd.exe (Same procedure as above)

For your kind info I must tell you that we Indians are best software developer than you. I can challenge you on that even a 10th standard boy know much better Linux, C, C++ and Java at least better than you. Many a time for any reason we may be disconnected from internet so this feature of ofline update is very very much inportant. Even if when we want our computer intentionally disconnected from internet but wanna keep avast updated.
I think you people just wanna laugh on others.

Go here to get Avast VPS updates. It can be downloaded to one computer then copied to a disk and installed on other computers.

Why does there have to be so much BS on this forum? No need to insult anyones intelligence. It's a simple question with a simple answer.
-
Hi DavidCo,
I think the reply given by Charyb must have cleared your doubts. Of course I am clever and for your kind info suppose u have some sensitive data in one of your pc and you don't want it to be connected to internet for example for security purposes then you can download update files from some pc where internet connection is available then copy it to pen drive go to the pc which don't have internet copy the updates and update avast.
Looks good na ?????? i know that actually we Indian always think something different. Its in our blood. thats why We have developed ourself so faster after independence and stand as a second largest economy in the world after china.......
Please let me know if you want any thing more.......?
But never say bad words to anyone again.

I realize this. Do you realize that this is an English speaking forum and that not everyone who visits here can speak or write fluent English? Things tend to get lost in translation. There are people that come from different backgrounds all over the globe. Sometimes things are not completely clear. If a person asks a question that is not perfectly, grammatically correct does that mean that they are clueless? Seems that some people tend to think that they are above the rest and like to criticize and insult.

Is there any way to make Avast 6 right click scan context menu smaller.
Instead full name of folder/file scan, lets say for example Scan With Avast.
When we right click we can just have "Scan with avast!" or "avast! scan" I think avast can implement this in their final release. Isn't it? because some time we are bound to have a large file name for some clarification or info on that file. I mean as what that file belong to. So at that whenever we right click on that we get a large context menu.
Any expert suggestion on this?
Thanks

Pardon me if I'm posting in the wrong place about the wrong product, BUT I have an urgent alert for anyone trying to install the avast! 6.0 product vintage March 4, 2011. Specifically, this product cannot be successfully installed in Windows XP Professional (and, I'm sure, "Home" as well) without at least Service Pack 2 (my installation CD has only SP1). If such an installation is attempted, registry issues immediately arise that preclude booting up successfully. However, the "back door" fix for this problem is to boot into Safe Mode, which appears NOT to be affected, to un-install 6.0, and then to re-install an earlier 5.0 or 5.1 version (e.g., 5.1.889). This seemingly obvious problem can take a frustratingly long time to correlate and isolate, but it is very definitely a problem caused by the "premature" installation of avast! 6.0

This version is noticeably slower than then stable release. Simply moving a file from the desktop to another folder will cause a delay as Avast intercepts and scans. It really is getting on my nerves. I can also hear my CPU working a lot harder than it was before. I don't know what has changed, but it isn't as transparent as the previous version.
-
@Privateofcourse : well first after I complained about speed issues with V6 stable, I found the pre-release version to be much faster. And second, if you got such issues as what you describe in your post, then your Windows install is broken. Avast just doesn't do such things to systems.
Issues with moving files, deleting files, etc... came with Vista and are still there off and on in Seven, explorer just breaks once in a while. Try to create another profile, and if this doesn't work, re-install Windows.Yes of course you could check what happens if you uninstall Avast first, if things are better or not. Which still wouldn't mean that Avast is the culprit, but Windows cannot deal anymore with Avast drivers >>> on your system.
-
... Try to create another profile, and if this doesn't work, re-install Windows...
Yeah, right! Thanks for the great advice there.

Hey ,
I just noticed that avast don't scan script on Firefox 4 beta 12 but it does it on IE 8. Is it normal??????? or firefox not supported yet?
Based upon my experience that are so many Firefox addons that handle bad scripts, unwanted cookies/trackers, ad networks, Malvartising
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Malvertising (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Malvertising)
and the like that one can do just fine in protecting themselves from the bad stuff using AIS, MBAM or SAS and Firefox along with a number of its addons.
If any Firefox users here would like to discuss these addons then feel free to send me a private message. :)

Just reverted to 6.0.1000 and everything working fine again. I'll wait for a 'stable' final release.
-
Installed 1021 over 1000 on both XP's ...smooth and flawless. ;D
-
Okay so I have avast 6.0.1 and it's working fine. Do I have to install this newest version? Silly question maybe, but I just want to know. These updates scare me because something usually goes wrong.

You don't have to - but it's probably best that you do.
It's only a a single click, and it will just intall the necessary changes onto 6.0.1000.

@Privateofcourse : well first after I complained about speed issues with V6 stable, I found the pre-release version to be much faster. And second, if you got such issues as what you describe in your post, then your Windows install is broken. Avast just doesn't do such things to systems.
If that allegations was nearly true, all AVs would be the same impact on the overall PC's performance, and no one would ask: "hey, what AV is low on resource, low in memory footprint and you don't notice it is there?"
And... once YOU found 1021 version faster, NOBODY has the right to find it slower instead? Common! If you are in PMS and has bad humour, it is better not o post anything, YOUR SILENCE would be a poem.

Do not waste Logos time with your pathetic attempt to understand computers. Logos is all knowing. His computer is the razors edge of software development. Beta, alpha and nightly builds all performing flawlessly as their coders intended. Just a glimpse of his computer desktop would leave you senseless. You could never understand. Your only option is to accept what Logos has written. Resistance is futile!

6.0.1021 Real-time protection virtual code using a program call sf.bin make the computer crash but 6.0.1000 don't have the problem.
I wish you can solve the problem , thank you!
-
Sf.bin is part of the virus database, i.e. it's identical both in 6.0.1000 and 6.0.1021 (or even 5.1).
When exactly does it crash?
-
I don't know. When I open the explorer.exe,it is making the computer crash for five minutes!
-
So... does "crash" actually mean "freeze"?
-
yes!
-
since there's a new beta build, thread could be closed no ? ;)
-
Repairing and re-registering the WMI doesn't help this, revert now all is good

3* Advanced settings for Script & network shield. Both need to set-up generating report files (behavior shield also need report file section). Script shield should have possiblity to set-up heuristics and action when bad script found. Network shield should have to set-up excludes.
Can't comment really on script shield, but I doubt network shield will ever have exclusion lists. The network shield block list is generally reserved for known malware distribution sites, so having an option to exclude something there would not be a good option.
Those lists can and have been wrong, or a user may want to use a site even if its on the list. Without exclusions the users is forced to turn off network protection - which is bad.
On the script side, some trusted sites generate a lot of scripts. Would be great for users who uses those sites to exclude them and avoid the latency/cpu hits.
Having a INI level setting at least be good.
Thanks,
d

@ reesd,
Did you look at the date of the thread/last post (March 2011), and Avast version (6.0.1021) of the thread you posted in? This isn't even for the current version of Avast, which is now v.6.0.1125.
This thread should be closed.

Yes, it's 1125 and it has the same issue. No settings for for script shield or network shield. I chose this thread to comment because it had the most discussion and the most recent discussion on these two issues.
Personally if I was starting the conversation I would have started a new thread rather than posting it in a version announcement, but I didn't and this is where the discussion and the people involved in it were located.
But hey, I don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers, so copied my post and quote to http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=72318.msg649682#msg649682 which is also related to this subject. Unfortunately its even older, so maybe I can look forward to someone commenting on it being an older thread there also :).
