My computer's registry got hosed, so did a clean windows install. Previously had avast installed, and it seems to have picked up some old status info from somewhere.
Anyway, rebuild Xp sp2, and loaded avast.
Seems to be working, except Avast is reporting to windows that its virus definitions file is out of date.
If I tell it to download iAVS update, the program reports that
Vps: Already up to date
(current version 0438-3)
However, hitting the About box shows:
VPS file
Compilation date: 11.06.2004
File version: 0424-3
and this is the version that windows reports as out of date.
help! tried manually downloading the update, and it thinks it's already installed.

Already tried a repair of Avast?
start > control panel > add/remove > avast > change
Or the used they Avast Uninstall Util (http://files.avast.com/files/eng/avclear4.exe) to remove Avast and then do a clean install of Avast?
