Uninstalled Spybot and Avast. Used cleaner and installed version specified and still get the same error:
"Avast! will not be able to protect mail/news (error 10091)."
It looks like PC tools firewall has something like Spybot built in.This is not true. PCT FW is just a FW only unless you installed a suite.

How is this related to webshield? ??? ??? ???
For email, you must disable SSL/TLS encryption in your email client and leave the ports at normal (25,110,143)

First, did you uninstall SB and TT with the uninstaller tools I posted previously, then reboot?
Second, when you uninstalled PCT FW, did you do it as the vendor suggested then reboot? BTW, PCT leaves a LOT of remnants behind. I highly suggest you go into Safe Mode > Advanced Search > type in PC Tools (and on other searches type: PCTools, Symantec, Norton) > anything that comes up on the right side of your screen if you are not sure if it is related to PCT you can right-click on the file for "Properties" to confirm. If it is related to PCT, you can delete it and put it in the recycle bin and empty while in Safe Mode. Since PCT is owned by Symantec/Norton, that is why you also need to search under these names as well, and they are known to leave remnants and a search or uninstalling this FW has shown to leave registry or drivers behind which may cause issues with other security software. Did you reboot after uninstallation? Turn on your Windows Firewall in XP for now so you have some kind of protection. Eventually you will need a third-party 2-way FW like Avast IS; Online Armor (free or paid); Comodo (without AV); Outpost (free or paid) - these have not caused conflict with Avast.
Third, when you installed Avast, did you do so using the new Avast Uninstaller tool and uninstall ALL previous versions and products of Avast prior to re-installing? This third step should be the LAST step after uninstalling all your other software and cleaning your machine.
Here are the steps for uninstalling Avast and doing a clean install (leave the Avast settings at default for now):
1. Save a copy of Avast and save it to your HDD:
http://www.avast.com/download-software (http://www.avast.com/download-software) – all versions
2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear6.exe (http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear6.exe) and save it to your HDD.
3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
4. Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
5. If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (http://Safe Mode) (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool. Uninstall ALL previous versions and products of Avast at this time.
6. Reboot.
7. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
8. Get Internet access and register your copy for Free:
Free – http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php (http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php)
9. Update the Avast definitions.
Let us know how this works for you. Thank you.
I have no idea - right-click - Open Avast! User Interface - REal-Time-Shields - Webshield - Protection status: SERVICE STOPPED!Uninstalled Spybot and Avast. Used cleaner and installed version specified and still get the same error:How is this related to webshield? ??? ??? ???

So PC Tools isn't compatible with aVast either? You posted on 3/27/11 that you were uninstalling PCT FW. That being said, you continued to have problems. I posted that after uninstalling PCT FW, it is known to leave many remnants behind and posted how to remove them because if remnants are left behind and you try to install another security software (AV, FW, or anything else), it can cause conflicts.
Check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).MBAM needs to be updated prior to doing a scan every time. Go into your firewall (FW) but under Advanced Settings. Check for MBAB (Malwarebytes Antimalware) and see if there is a yellow or red dot or a question mark indicating that it is being blocked. If so, right click it and "allow" it so that you now "trust" MBAM in your FW. If you stay in the Advanced settings of your FW, leave it there, otherwise, change it back to the basic settings you had.
· It won't update - says there's a firewall proxy error - there is no way to set these up in MBAM?
Shouldn't be using proxy - there is no way to set one in mbam. There is a way to set a proxy in MBAM. If you do not use a proxy, please make sure it is not accidentally enabled in MBAM:
Please check that the avast service (Avastsvc.exe) is not blocked by your personal firewall."Even though you disabled your FW, it remains on your machine and the drivers and registries are still there. Open up your FW and look to see if anything related to Avast is blocked (in red under Advanced settings), and if so enable it so that it is not blocked.
I've narrowed the problem down: I uninstalled Vodafone 9.4 and the problem went away. Re-installed it so I could use internet on 3G (Version 9.3 greys out some options) and the problem came back. Now that you figured out the problem (Vodaphone being the issue), is there any way to put Vodophone on a different machine by any chance or use something different? If not, I will have you submit a mini-dump file with Vodaphone while having the problem so that Avast can see the conflict and try and resolve the issue for the next release version if possible.
