Avast did very good ALL ON ITS OWN. I don't count the toolbar install since a toolbar is not malicious behavior.
-
Much better test this time around. :) i agree that the toolbar isn't a huge deal and easily removed a number of ways
Avast's Trojan-Gen signature is apparently very well written ;D
-
There are tons of tests where Avast does well.
-
Good! I Like It! ;D

Yes, pattern detection team is very good. According to a Vlk, 80% of samples are covered by generic detection.

Ok people here is the new one from today:

Brilliant...more YouTube tests... ::)

Omg TheIgster :P
You should see him " testing " OA Free, asking himself if it has an AV or not ;D

woooow avast! free is better than paid eset. Love It! :-*

Are you people learning anything? Avast is fine ALL BY ITSELF. No MBAM Pro needed. No 3rd party firewall with HIPS needed.
-
Regardless of the result or the AV program you cannot make a judgement of it based on 15 links...
-
15,20,50,100. It doesn't matter. I posted the video the other day by this guy where Avast also did great. Malware blocking is malware blocking. Kudos to Avast.
-
Well, it kinda does matter, it is not a proper test.
How do you know where the links come from?
How do you know the links haven't been tested?
15 links don't accurately represent the multitude of infected files/sites that are out there...think drop in the ocean...
Was AV a due an update while b was just updated?
-
The links come from MDL and he tells you that. Duh. Watch his other videos. Everyone copies and pastes there links from MDL. I even use MDL for testing purposes.

Explain this in English please. Thanks.
"Was AV a due an update while b was just updated?"
-
Good for you...still, pulling 15 links from MDL is no real test...and you believe him just because he tells you?
So basically all an av has to do to "do well" is pull the list off MDL and add it to the database...
-
Ok so then take it up with TheLgster then. Tell him that he is a fake and a phoney for making Avast look good. Who do you work for NOD32? ::)
-
Here is his official site. Take it up with him.

Here we go again ::)

As usual, you are missing the point, and not reading my post properly...
REGARDLESS OF THE RESULT you cannot definitively make any judgement on ANY av based on 15 links pulled from some list...
I don't care about whether the youtube "reviewer" is fake and phoney as you put it, my questions were posted about all reviews in general from an objective point of view. (at least I tried to post them that way)
I'm bored of repeating myself so this is my last post in this thread...

Don't shoot the messenger.

Don't shoot the messenger.
No way, King Leonidas Rules are in effect ;D
-
So I posted some videos of the power of Avast and you guys are complaining. Whatever.
-
Not understanding your point, DieselMan.
You say that avast! is more that enough and MBAM is no needed or any other type of similar program?
Jeez... If that's your idea, just stay with it and don't spread around the forum, ok? Not saying that avast! is horrible but is no perfect either. Is a very good free suite, I agree, but it doesn't catch all the malware around the Internet. Needs some backup from another good software for the exceptional cases.
And by the way, youtube vids are just vids. I want see real stuff coming from serious companies like AV Comparatives and VirusBulletin not from armchair testers.
Anyways... you'll now go flaming my post and defend your position and ideas, etc. Just an advise: just go over it. Is not worthless for any one of both sides.
-
MBAM is not a backup. A system image is a backup. Everyone seems so paranoid around here. Adding this and adding that just to stay safe. Well these videos prove that Avast can stand on it's own.
-
Well these videos prove that Avast can stand on it's own.
These videos prove the same thing that videos showing Avast! failing on YouTube prove. ;)
-
There aren't many videos of Avast 6 failing.
-
I'm afraid there are quite a few - just like for other AVs.
Basically, 15 samples doesn't bring any useful information. You can always easily select 15 (or 150, doesn't matter) samples such that a particular AV fails for all of them, or vice versa, detects all of them. So, the result is only about the sample selection.
If there was a million samples (which would be kinda hard to dynamically test all of them, sure), that would be a bit harder to manipulate the sample set. But with this low number, you have to believe that the samples were chosen randomly... and even if they were, there's no guarantee they match the usual statistical distribution; can be related to the geographical origin of the samples/tester, etc.
