Title: [Solved] Stop 0x00000044 Multiple_IRP_Complete_Requests
Post by: John_M on April 05, 2011, 07:10:08 PM
I renewed my subscription this morning for Avast and upgraded to the Internet Security (AIS) version (6.0.1000).  On my son's Compaq Presario V2000, I started receiving a "Stop 0x00000044 Multiple_IRP_Complete_Requests" BSOD after the rebooting to complete the install.  I had to restart and chose the last Windows settings that worked.  When I do that the laptop will boot, but the Avast icon has an exclamation mark on it.  When I bring up Avast, the firewall is turned off.  So I assume there is a conflict with the laptop and the Avast firewall.  The laptop has been solid (for a Compaq/HP) prior to installing AIS.  This is a Windows XP SP 3 machine with all of the Windows updates installed.  No other anti-virus/anti-malware software is installed.

Any ideas on how to use the Avast firewall but avoid the BSOD?  I'm going to try one of the beta versions to see if the issue is resolved.  Google didn't bring up this error message in association with Avast.

Maybe try this (beta, but stable and bugfixes) version 6.0.1044 (http://files.avast.com/files/beta/6.0.1044/setup_ais.exe)

Uninstall 6.0.1000 first, make sure not to delete your licence file (*.avastlic) in order to register after installation.

I'm downloading it now and will give it a try.  I'll post back if it fixes the issue.

Also, I've tried updating the drivers from Intel - http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/ .  The video card driver was updated.  The wired and wireless NICs where already up to date.

More information:  I have an Untangle UTM (untangle.com) between me and the Internet.  When I've been downloading AIS, the anti-virus software in Untangle, Virus Blocker (based on Clam AV), has been detecting a virus in the download file from http://files.avast.com/files/beta/6.0.1044/setup_ais.exe and cleaning the file.  When I went to run the downloaded file (setup_ais.exe), the executable was corrupted and gave me an error (see attached screen shot).

Untangle Virus Blocker info:
Virus Blocker signatures were last updated:    2011-04-05 3:23:01 pm

Excerpt of log entry:
2011-04-05 12:25:31 pm blocked xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1212 (HTTP) http://download797.avast.com/files/beta/6.0.1044/setup_ais.exe virus found

So I've now turned off the virus scanner and I'm redownloading the beta.  I'll let you know what happens.

After turning off the a/v scanner and redownloading the file I got further, but the Avast firewall will still not install properly.  Here is an excerpt of the error log (see attached).

Other thoughts:
Although I don't have any other anti-virus/anti-malware software installed, I do have Blue Coat K9 Web Protection 4.0.296 and Secunia PSI 2.0.0.3001 installed.  I'll try removing them to see if that helps.

After uninstalling Blue Coat K9 Web Protection 4.0.296 (getk9.com) and reinstalling AIS Beta 6.0.1044 and selecting change to add the firewall option, my son's laptop seems to run well.  So there seems to be a conflict between K9 and AIS.

So there seems to be a conflict between K9 and AIS.
Could be. But I do not have a problem with them. Running smoothly here :)

I submitted the information to K9.  They believe they have a fix in the beta release below:

http://www.k9webprotection.com/download/k9-webprotection-beta.exe

I'll give it a try and post back to K9 and Avast.
