Title: Wird problems with Avast 6
Post by: LXHMC on April 11, 2011, 01:09:57 PM
Hey Im using Avast 6 (free) and while I like the new stuff compared to 4/5, this current stable release of A6 is giving me some headache.

Quite many times it have happened that the avast-service does not start at boot, visthauth.exe might pop in. I think I fixed the certificate issues..

And Avast kept running smooth and turning on even on boots as well.

Until XP started to not to run avast-service at boot no more.
I think this happened to after installation of Office 2007 and Adobe CS3.
When I ran the whole system scan very throughout I got tens of files that very macro something, some error code about macros.
Could the latest boot troubles come from Office 2007 installation? as many macro features were installed with Office 2007.

Are there some Windows XP (sp3) services that Avast needs to run/start at boot?
Does any Avast features use MS service task scheduler? Or dcom? what else?

Try this: Click on Settings in Avast GUI (upper right corner), select "Troubleshooting" on the left menu and mark "Start Avast Services after other services" option. .

Does this solve the problem?

Also Office might have put some stuff into the Autostart - and that is not really needed. You may want to check that as well and take that stuff out of Autostart. Use Autoruns Tool (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902)

Ok thanks im checking...

I wish they would release the new stable version already!

What is that macro warning? thaw warning number was somethinglike: Macro *420*

Is it Macro's that are causing trouble?

Many .exe's report macro warning!!??

I don't know if it's a good idea to load Avast service after other services?

I uninstalled Avast and booted and the boot was fine, but after I reinstalled Avast and booted the lag was there again, I mean after winlogon it takes 2-3 minutes when desktop loads and Avast service is not loaded, but Avast.setup runs and it creates a new Avast shortcut to desktop.

Okay, let's first try this Avast 6.0.1044 Release (http://files.avast.com/files/beta/6.0.1044/setup_av_free.exe) (and don't worry, it is as stable as can be).
Just download and install over the existing Avast installation. There are some bugfixes incorporated.

You might want to do a scan for VisthAux.exe and see

1.  If you have more than copy.  I believe you should have only one copy
2.  Where it/they are located. It should be located in the \AVAST Software\Avast directory
3.  What the File Version of the the file is.  It should match the version number of Avast.
