Title: new toolbar is a total waste of screen real estate!!
Post by: boma23 on April 11, 2011, 03:34:33 PM
Hi,

I was prompted to install the new Web Threat protection thing this morning, which i did, to then open up IE9 and find that my nice new clean interface has a whole line of toolbar spanning the whole screen, with just a single icon on it?!?!

Getting rid of the toolbar then disables the new component!

Why do we need to have a toolbar for the new component?  Why not just a single button?   unnecessary toolbars are one of my pet hates and all will be disabled...

Otherwise, great job on an excellent product I've used for years. Please don't spoil it by going backwards and moving toward crap like Norton that takes over my screen and browsers...

Thanks,

Dom

Are you talking about WebRep on IE9? - I will assume it as yes.

It is how IE supports extensions. Not only webrep. Whatever, except a few, extension you install, it will create a toolbar. But it can be merged. I mean you can have single toolbar with all the icons on it. Also, you can save some space by disabling the menu bar. (see pic of my IE9)

I disabled the toolbar straight away, but it still seems to be working against google search results oin the webpage itself, so that's good enough for me  :)

I hadn't realsied this was a limitation of creatinog extensions.  Why would MS make such a big effort (and IMO good job) of cleaning up the IE interfacer to only then force 3rd parties into spoiling it?  Hmm...

Out of interest is there a version for Firefox and Chrome?  I use all 3 on a daily basis, for different things...

Works with Firefox, in a much more sensible, minimalistic manner.  Chrome support is forthcoming.
