Post by: Probzzie on April 11, 2011, 05:04:02 PM
I was wondering if someone can tell me how to make my words a link?

Check out this for help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBCode

Specifically, this:
Code: [Select]
[url=http://example.org]http://example.org[/url]
However, any site you want to post should automatically be made a link.  http://something.com

edit: hmm... doesn't seem to automatically make it a link.  Actually, that's good, no one can accidentally post a malicious link anymore.

Oh well, follow mine or David's suggestions on how to create a link and you'll be fine.

Right, but sometime when suggesting a link to say a download, the link is very long.
Thank you for this read, appreciated very much  :D

No problem. In the case of long download URL's, a URL shortener can be used (such as http://bit.ly/)

Or, name the url and post the href like this:
Code: [Select]
[b][url=http://something.com]Something[/url][/b]
Something (http://something.com)

If you hadn't found the forum Help, sub-section Posting, SMF Bulletin Board Code, Insert Hyperlink detail, that I would suggest would have been your first port of call, though it is often easy to overlook the obvious ;D

I don't really like URL-shortener. You never really know what's in the box before ysou open it...  8)

That is hardly like a URL shortener like tiny url, etc., giving it a more meaningful name and the original URL isn't hidden, hovering the mouse over the text will display the URL in the status bar
