I keep getting an error 403, I've tried it on two different computers and get the error both times, is something down or are other users experiencing this?
Definitions version: 110419-1
Program version: 6.0.1091
-
Yes, sorry for that, will be fixed in about 15-20 minutes.
Thanks
Vlk
-
same here :(
-
cant update program and definitions. Error 403. servers.def.
cheers
-
Thanks for the quick answer.
-
Me too, getting a 403 error even while forcing a manual update of AVAST Free
-
Ah...that explains it...did the manual update (vpsupd.exe) before seeing this. Oddly though, I was bounced around with the 403 error, I still got a download prompt.
-
same problem here.
-
Hi All,
Same here when we would like to update mirror of SBC and avast IS as well.
Here's i attached the screenshoot of update notifications.
-
I'm not sure if it helps the team, but I also got a popup stating there was a problem with an update and I tried turning off the computer, waiting three minutes (old thinking, I know) and then got the same thing. So I'm just adding a "Me Too" here just in case that is of any help and I want to see what my time setting is on this site so I can see how long ago y'all were posting the "Me Too" messages.
EDIT: Timestamps put me with y'all. Heh, what kind of beverage do we serve at a "Me Too" party!!? ;D
-
I'm still having this problem. Are you guys working on it?
Edit: Sorry, I live in another time zone, so I will wait patient
-
I'm gonna add a "Me too", too. Still not working. Please fix soon if possible!
-
same problem here

Of course they are. These folks are all over this. Have a beverage, chill out, and soon your Avast will be purrrrring like a kitten again. A cute, cuddly Avast kitten.
-
Same here. I´m getting error messages 403. What´s wrong with Avast?
-
Hi All.
Same here! :P
-
Will be fixed in about 5 minutes.
BTW no need for more "me too" messages, really.
Thank you
Vlk
-
Thank you for the answer!
-
Thanks vlk. We waiting. Good Job for fast repair.

Thats not the point when they said it would of been fixed after a 15 to 20 mins over a hour ago so this should be been fix avast is used by so many people after AVG Free went down the bad road so if people are having a cow they have a right to don't tell peopel to chill.

The point is: you want a quick, maybe faulty fix or a tested and secure one? I surely opt for the latter.

In any case, all should be good now.
Thanks for your patience.

Tried to update the engine and virus definitions just now and got:
Last encountered error: Other HTTP errror (403) while trying 85.17.26.174:80//iav5x/servers.def
and
Last encountered error: Other HTTP errror (403) while trying 208.43.71.154:80//iav5x/servers.def
Hope this helps, clue-wise.
-
Thanks. Now is OK.
-
Doesn't work for me.
-
Edit: Hurray! Seems to be working now.

Vlk
nothing's good
same problem
not fixed
-
Just managed to update here in Eastern Canada.
-
It wasn't an hour ago, Vlk's post was about 40 mins ago, which granted is a bit longer than the time he stated, is not an hour
This doesn't stop avast from working in any way, it still functions. The only thing is that the defs will be a day old, and some control panel functions of avast wont work either (they also produce a 403)
Well, they had to correct a bug in the Virus-db... so Avast was not working correctly 100% (problem with blocking localhost on NS)... 8)
-
update problem is fixed
-
Work for me. Screen.
-
Can I just say I read Vlk's post confirming their was a problem, then his later post saying it had been fixed.....and guess what...he's right...no panic! ;D

Hah, you caught the edit :P. Didn't realise that was the cause...my mistake ;)
For all those still saying that it doesn't work, I am presuming it has to propgate properly to the servers. Took a little bit after Vlk's update before it worked for me.
-
Great - it's working now, Perfectly!!
-
Thank you it´s working now!

These days it's becoming commonplace that you know if you can't update Avast, it's because they've released bad definitions for the web shield. To their credit, they are getting quicker at jumping on it after it's already been released to the public...
You can see for yourself that they jumped on it earlier than previous bad updates as there are relatively few entries this time with:
Google realtime search of "Avast" today (http://tinyurl.com/3l2jbqw) [google.co.uk]
The last time, the realtime search had pages and pages of people complaining about websites being blocked, and was being updated frequently with new entries. You can see the big blip of mentions of Avast on the last bad update on the 11th of April, 2011, look on the graph to the right:
Google realtime search "Avast" 11th April, 2011 (http://tinyurl.com/3b226bf) [google.co.uk]
and the time before that when it blocked forum software:
Google realtime search "Avast" 21 March, 2011 (http://tinyurl.com/3vmpobu) [google.co.uk]
Please - fix your quality control issues, as it makes us look silly to less computer-savvy people when we get them to change to Avast, and this keeps happening. It's getting a little bit silly, and is terrible publicity.

Amen to that. :)

Even though this should not happen in the first place (but, as we all know since Murphy, every possible error will occur...) I think it was a rather impressive and fast reaction to the situation.
-
I get a Microsoft popup window (vista OS) that says AVAS! Antivirus update stopped working and was closed. The latest program was updated but can't update either manually or automatically. Any solution from my end?
