That could not be called a poll when there is only one answer to select from.

Have you tried a search of the forums for 'ashOutXt.dll' ?

I did a search and it returned lots of posts (30), but not knowing anything about your system you will have to do the legwork and check if any of the hits reflect your system.

To CharleyO -  ??? I did state that I was a Newbie to message boards.  All I needed was a little direction regarding my issue.

To DavidR -  :) I will try the search on my own (as you suggested) and attempt to fix.  If I still have issues, then I will post a message (hopefully the right way).  Thank you for a righteous reply.

Bob3160 -  :) Tried that first.  Now I will try what David R wrote.  Thank you, too.

I can't find the answer by searching this forum.  My PC is Win 98 / Outlook 98 and I have Avast 4 Home.  I turned the PC on last night and my Avast icons were gone.  Then I opened Outlook and got the ashOutXt.dll error.  I tried to repair Avast in the Add/Remove program, rebooted and now I can't find Avast even in the prgram listing.

This is one of the reasons that we ask what your system is.

As far as I can remember, Win98 doesn't support the Add Remove Change (which allows you to select the repair function) and only allows Remove and this looks like what you have done.

If you still have the downloaded file, reinstall it. I would however, suggest that you try downloading it again, just in case your download was somehow corrupted.

Did you enable the Outlook Plug-in and was it active within MS Outlook. I don't use Outlook so can't offer too many suggestions.

As people have said, the more information you can give us the easier it is to suggest options.

I assume that the Outlook Plug-in was enabled/active. as Avast did work nicely for the two months that I was running it.

I download it again.

I assume that the Outlook Plug-in was enabled/active.

I suppose you're talking about avast! settings.
See under MS Outlook menu: Help > About > Plugins if the avast! one is enabled...  ;)
As you can see, there is two ways of mess it: one into avast! and other into MS Outlook  8)

I didn't need to download Avast, it was hiding in my PC!  I did have to get a new key (reregister).  Now I have my blue icons, again ;D!  I just don't know why it happened in the first place.

Last issue - why doesn't Avast show up in
Start-->Programs menu?  When things go wrong, I hate searching for what I need...

I like this Avast, so much easier ~for me~ than Norton.

**I don't find plug-ins listed in my MS Outlook About.  Perhaps because my version is way out-dated?

No... most probably you did not install it correctly.
Close MS Outlook.
Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast antivirus > Remove
On the pop-up window, choose 'Change' and select 'Outlook/Exchange' provider.
If it is already marked, then choose the option 'Repair' at left.
Will it help?

No, the list in "About" is not an issue.  I might not be looking deep enought to find the info.  Another time when I have time.

The issue is getting Avast listed my Programs menu, so I can open Avast quickly if I ever have a problem.  I know that I have at least one other item that's not listed in the Programs menu.  I would like to know why that is and how to correct it.  Any ideas?

Did you try to right click the menu and sort it alphabetically?
avast! should be there...
Do you use more than one user?

Can you open Windows Explorer and
C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs...
Isn't avast there?

:( It's definitely not there.

??? I don't know where Windows Explorer is (I can't find it).  Did I miss something?

:'( I am only a geek wannabe; self taught and sometimes it takes me a little longer...other times it takes me a lot longer...

Do you use more than one user to logon on?
Windows Explorer is generally on Start > All Programs > Acessories

Did you try to repair the avast installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

Yes, I just did the repair and it worked.  Now Avast shows up where it's supposed to, works like it should, and I learned a little to boot.

Thanks to all who run this forum.  I will come back should I have more issues.   8)

Hello,

I have a problem with AshOutxt.dll as well.
My last avast version is File version: 7.1.0.279.

Each time I open Microsot Outlook, this following message is popping up:
“The add-in ‘C;\program Files\Alwil Software \Avast 4\ AshOutxt.dll’ could not be installed or loaded. The program may be solved by using Detect & Repair on the Help Menu. Unable to load C;\program Files\Alwil Software \Avast 4\ AshOutxt.dll. You may be out of memory, out of system resources, or missing a .dll file.

I use XP professional

Thanks for all kind of help.

Bruce X

Hello Bruce, welcome.

Did you try to repair the avast installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

Can you try?

Hi,
I have the same error message each time I open Microsoft Outlook and I have no idea how to get rid of it.

Does someone knows?

Thanks

Bruce X ???

Hi Technical,

Thanks for your answer. I went to control panel/add remove as you advise. I do not have a "repair" button or function appearing.

Avast is functioning well on my computer, the only problem is the message error about a missing dll. file just when I click on Microsoft Outlook. Then I click 'OK' and that's it, it works.

What I don't understand is why and where this message comes?

Do you have this file in your computer?

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashOutXt.dll

If not, can I send it to you by email... Give me your email by a personal message (IM).

Or, better, I think the best you can do is download the version 4.5 Beta.
Instructions here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=8095

Can you make a try and see if it's ok? Thanks.

Hello Sir,

I do not have the file on my computer, i.e. C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashOutXt.dll

You can send it to this adress: bxiste@gsb.uchicago.edu.

Thanks and let see if it works.

Bruce, to get rid of the problem, you need to delete the file called extend.dat.

This is how to do it:

To configure Windows to show all files

1.   Do one of the following:

   *   In Windows 98/Me/2000, on the Windows desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.
   *   In Windows XP, click Start > My Computer.

2.   Do one of the following:

   *   In Windows 98, click View > Folder Options.
   *   In Windows Me/2000/XP, click Tools > Folder Options.

3.   On the View tab, uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.
4.   Do one of the following:

   *   In Windows 98, in the Advanced settings box, under the Hidden files folder, click Show all files.
   *   In Windows Me/2000/XP, under the Hidden files folder, uncheck Hide protected operating system files, and click Show hidden files and folders.

5.   If you see a warning dialog box, click Yes.
6.   Click Apply.
7.   Click OK.

To repair the problem

1.   Start Windows Explorer.
2.   Locate and delete the Extend.dat file.
The default location of Extend.dat depends on your version of Windows:

   *   In Windows 98, the location is C:\Windows\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
   *   In Windows NT 4.0, the location is %Userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
   *   In Windows 2000/XP, the location is C:\Documents And Settings\<your-login-name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

Cheers
Vlk

I've sent to you few minutes ago...
Remember it belongs to the 4.5 version of avast (NOT 4.1).  ;)

Please, first do what Vlk said!
