Title: scanning
Post by: chameleon on October 17, 2004, 01:48:35 PM
My friend recently changed over to avast! and I am posting this question for him.

Is there a way to configure avast! so that it does not pause when it finds a virus, during a scan, but rather allows you to deal with the viruses at the cease of scanning?

I personally prefer the immediate method.

Cheers!

chameleon.  :)

Set Avast to run in silent mode. Do a little search on this board and you will find many threads explaining it.

okay. got it.   so, silent mode with set to "no" sends the item to the chest.

and "yes" deletes it. That is what I have gathered.

Thank you.  :)

Cham,

Avast Quote:

Silent Mode is mainly for server operating systems. This option ensures that the resident protection will not require any user interaction and will not display any windows.

For this reason, it is not recommended to set "choose action" on the Virus page in silent mode, because the interactive action choice requires user interaction of course. It is better to preset some particular action, such as deleting the file or moving it to Chest.

It is better in my opinion to have the system stop at a potentially dangerous file so you can deal with it, then let it remain active on the system "free and clear" to continue its' destructive habit until you "deal" with it at the end of the scan.

Good luck.

Chameleon, take care, you won't be able to recover the deleted file or mail...  ;)

I totally agree with both of you, and that is my preference..

My friend is just not accustomed to the amount of the control that avast! allows in comparison to other AV's. And he has been finding heaps  :o of virii since changing to avast!

I will advise him to  continue with interactive mode until he is more experienced.

We have a fully customized antivirus here... It's not a joke like some others...  ;D
Right now, I'm working on almost 100 tweaks of avast4.ini file, new ones, not posted yet. They will work only in the 4.5 version  8)
