Dear Sirs
With the installation of Firefox 5.0 into my home PC running Windows Home Premium with Service Pack 1, Firefox reveals that avast! WebRep is not compatible and has been disabled.
Appreciate it much if any remedial action will be taken on the current avast! Free Antivirus 6.0.1125.

This was already pointed out on another thread.
Due to technical issues with how Firefox Beta is updated or something like that it is going to have to wait until 5.0 RTW comes out before WebRep is compatible.
Suggest you search the forum for the specific reason.

My installed Firefox is the final version 5, which has just been released.
I think it may be appropriate to have avast! WebRep fixed in due course.

No not today sorry they will release when our current FF browser v4.0.1 tell us if you click on the help section and then click on the about firefox this will tell you when it available ;)

Three days earlier than originally planned, the Mozilla Foundation has released version 5 of the popular Internet browser Firefox. In comparison to the previous version, the changes keep within limits.
Is primarily the developers have optimized the surface and added numerous points, resulting in a higher speed. This will be achieved in part through a change in the triggering event of background tabs, here was the period increased to 1,000 milliseconds. Among the other new features include support for CSS animations and also paint WebGL called cross-domain textures. The last point made previously a security hole in Firefox dar. A complete overview of all changes and versions of future planned features can be found on the Mozilla site.
Work on the next version of Firefox, however, have already begun. With the sixth edition, which is currently in alpha status, is primarily the revised user interface and especially the speed can be increased. Firefox 6 should appear as 7 later this year.

There is always a slight chance that the release candidate may have changes before official release, but I've never seen that happen.

What official Mozilla site are you quoting that from? Post the official URL and I will believe it then. Until Mozilla says it's officially released, then it isn't officially released. What part of that don't you understand? ;D ::)
Of course, posting the URL on or after June 21st doesn't count. :-* >:(

If it's an official release I couldn't find it. PC Magazine had a write-up, but that's all I was able to find.

I downloaded it from these addresses and it's called 5.0beta upon install.

If you are on the "Beta Track" you can download the update to 5.0 RC via About Firefox.
5.0 RTW is not yet available. It is still scheduled for release next Tuesday the 21st.

it not the final version of firefox 5 is a candidate released that was released a few days ago.

Nothing has changed, essentially it is a game of catch-up for many firefox add-ons when a new version is released.
- The fact that you don't see the WebRep or doesn't work with the latest firefox version, doesn't lessen the avast protection. You still have the Network Shield blocking known malicious sites and the Web Shield pre-scanning http content before it is displayed/run in your browser.
The WebRep is purely reputation based on avast user input. Later when the avast! virus labs start inputting information of detected malware, etc. into the webrep database, then it will be more of a security feature than just a reputational tool.
