Title: Windows virus warning
Post by: galam on June 22, 2011, 08:44:53 AM
I'm running Windows 7, and the Action Centre gives me a message about a virus, Win32/Chir.B@mm. The name of this virus is rlvknlg.exe. The AC wants me to download the Microsoft safety scanner to remove this virus, but when I run the Avast scanner, it doesn't find any virus.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this a real virus?

Are you even sure this is the win7 action center, how would it know you have a virus, as it isn't an antivirus.

Sounds like you have a rogue/fake alert scam going on, don't whatever you do download anything or you would most likely be downloading malware.

See http://www.malwarehelp.org/fake-windows-action-center-removal-2010.html (http://www.malwarehelp.org/fake-windows-action-center-removal-2010.html) for more info on this and its removal.

MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (MBAM), On-Demand only in free version http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe), right click on the link and select Save As or Save File (As depending on your browser), save it to a location where you can find it easily later. Download, Install Update and run, post the contents of the log in your next post.
