Title: Avast Mail Scanner High CPU Usage
Post by: adamjanzen on July 05, 2011, 06:52:47 AM
Hi All,

Over the last while, I have been having an issue with the mail scanner. Here's the setup - I have Outlook 2010 (Win 7) with multiple (read: too many) mail accounts. Overall, mail flows well, except for one of these account, which receives a lot of junk mail. Just by checking that account, I can consistently recreate this problem.

When this account attempts to download mail, the download crawls, and CPU usage locks up. The only way I can stop it is by forcibly stopping all Avast services.

Using Sysinternals Process Explorer, I dug down a bit more, finding there is one thread which is causing the majority of the problems - AshMaiSrv.dll!ServiceCustom+0x22310

Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any solutions/workarounds (besides disabling the mail scanner)?

Thanks!
