Title: How I wish for themes
Post by: sw on July 10, 2011, 10:07:48 AM
The recent avast (version 5 and 6) have sound themes.
Why not UI themes? Anyone know the reason why they removed it in the first place?

I think UI themes could make using avast even easier, with customization of button positions.

Not saying that avast is not easy to use or anything, but I think I just looks better with a personal touch.

It was asked a lot of times...
I think skins won't come back.
Color schemes (themes) could be... But they're not so enthusiastic with this.

I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon. Besides it's not really needed for AV application.

Theme is a nice addition for application which you use and interact with it most of the time (like web browser).

Avast has spent a lot of time giving the whole avast brand the same look, website, forum, blog, etc. and the avast user interface the same corporate look. So I too rather doubt that will change.

As far as being able to move buttons around, etc. I think that is a poor idea, you only have to view the forums to see that we constantly use images to a) answer questions without the need of very long text only answer and b) we often ask users to post images of their settings, etc. in relation to problems.

So there needs to be a degree of consistency in the interface, this is more important when you also have different language versions involved, whilst the text, titles, button names might be different, the locations are consistent and help in following any explanation.

The only thing I ever see is the little spinning ball in the system tray and, the pop-up to let me know
that avast! has been updated.
The current interface is easy to use and can no longer be confused with a music player.  :)

The protection is more important than appearance :)

Very good points, troubleshooting Avast and telling somebody to click on buttons they may have moved or renamed could be a major hassle.  +1
