Are you saying that you're using an old version of g-data that still uses the 4.x engine (or why are you mentioning avast 4 at all)?
This particular detection is classified as a PUP (which cannot be seen in VirusTotal results as it omits the suffix for some reason), and avast! 4 doesn't detect PUPs because it's missing the necessary configuration options. Whether the g-data version on VirusTotal is an old one, based on avast! 4 engine, or if g-data doesn't enable PUP detection in avast! 5 engine... don't know.
As for why not ending the support for 4.8... well, all of the existing pre-2012 editions of g-data would stop working (or more precisely, updating), for example, right?
Btw, last warning: unless you change your tone, you will be banned again, this time for good. You are certainly not the one to call the others bullies.

@igor....are you sure or do you mean only for avst 4.8

I was referring to the link in the original post - where the suffix is discarded.
However, when you click "More up-to-date report" there, it's shown.

because you didn't give them the engine upgrade and i have the gdata 2012 version
-
I don't know what exactly you are referring to in the quote, but you are wrong anyway.
-
The engines are different, and I imagine that Gdata is built for 4.
Also, judging by igor's response:
As for why not ending the support for 4.8... well, all of the existing pre-2012 editions of g-data would stop working (or more precisely, updating), for example, right?
That suggests to me, that the newer versions may use the newer engine? (igor?)
Either way I can't see how this is down to avast, since it is Gdata that is using it, they are responsible for updating...
You choose to use Gdata, you have to accept what comes with it.
-
Yes, the latest version uses avast! 5/6 engine, the same as in avast!.
-
because you didn't give them the engine upgrade and i have the gdata 2012 version
Give....they have to buy it if they want it i guess, avast is running a buisness
and according to this, new engine is in the 2012.... see reply #21
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=291416
so can this Gdata saga end now........ :P

im wrong? im one of you Customers btw because i have gdata

Yes, the latest version uses avast! 5/6 engine, the same as in avast!.
i check it still 4.8
-
There are certainly questions that should be addressed to GData as to what avast engine they are using in what version of GData (god forbid that nsm0220 has to update his version of GData).
@ nsm0220
I also hope you have been whining on the bitdefender forums as even now they don't detect anything, either on the VT link you gave or on clicking the view more recent results.

You are wrong, but even if it were true - G-data has the new engine, so the rest (to use it or not) is up to them. So please stop the accusations.

Sorry, but you are wrong.
-
Well, that might be partially right, even though the support should certainly be provided by the company who sold you the product, i.e. not by avast! - but the facts are wrong.
-
Well, that might be partially right...
Really. :o ;D
Which contracts did you make with them..??
Well, ok. No need to answer that. ;)

Sorry but you are a customer of GData that is who you paid your money to. GData is a customer of avast, having licensed whatever avast engine they choose and signature updates, etc.
I think you have flunked economics 101:
Example - You purchase an OEM copy of windows7 OS when you buy your new system. That OEM copy of win7 is cheaper than a Retail copy of win7 as MS don't provide direct support for the OEM versions, that is provided by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) under the license agreement they have with MS to purchase/create OEM copies of the OS.
Microsoft's part in the deal is they Provide OS fixes and Security Updates, etc. support is provided by the OEM/reseller.

This is no different to your situation.

No more cookies. The fact that avast and gdata are using the same engine doesn't give you the benefit to be an avast customer.Sine you are using GDATA,you should have asked them for help etc etc,it's obvious.

there is no winners in this case
You need a spell checker ............. Whiners has an "h" and only one "n" .

It might be prudent for Avast to check with GDATA why they aren't using the latest engine
since by doing so, anything their program misses indirectly reflects back on Avast.
If Avast made the inquiry, it will probably get faster results that questions asked by their own customers.
Having said all of that doesn't change the fact that nsm0220 is not an Avast customer and should get this question
answered by GDATA.
Since we help people with all kinds of problems and many of them aren't avast! users, helping nsm0220 isn't such a sin. :)

There isn't anything that can be accomplished via PM. I also don't see any reason for a PM.

then explain why that they told me and everyone else in forum that they would stop updating virus signatures for 4.8 after 12-31-10
than explain to me why they lie to me about upgrading their 4.8 to 5.0 for gdata
-
then explain why that they told me and everyone else in forum that they would stop updating virus signatures for 4.8 after 12-31-10
Well, sometimes things change. ;)
Also see Reply #10...!!
-
OK, I'm tired of this.
The virus signatures for 4.8 didn't stop because there are still to many programs being used (e.g. the business editions of avast!, and also older editions of g-data), so it's simply not possible to terminate the support, no matter how much we'd like to do that.
As for the g-data engine, you are simply wrong, it has been updated quite some time ago.
Done, please go accusing people of lying somewhere else.
