Title: Released at last
Post by: jx on July 19, 2011, 05:01:51 PM
Hello everybody,

thanks for your valuable feedback during the beta/RC phase of the first release of Business Protection.

Today we are making public the final release, available at http://www.avast.com/business

Release notes for the avast! Administration Console

Installation
    * The installation usually takes 15-30 minutes. It may appear to stop for a while in one phase - this is because during the installation, the files necessary for the local "update server" components are also downloaded. These files make up about 200MB, so it will take a while for everything to download and process. Please be patient.
    * Re-using an existing database
o If the Administration Console is reinstalled and a previous database is re-used, the group passwords are reset to a blank password. It is therefore necessary to change the password on the server.
o Database settings entered during the installation are ignored if a previous database is re-used. The Administration Console instead uses the previous DB settings.
    * During installation, you may get the error "Could not access VBScript" - VBScript runtime still has to be registered.

Repeated installations and upgrades from a previous beta and RC

Please do a complete uninstall before installing the newer version of the Administration Console.

Unattended deployment

    * Does not work in windows workgroups, works only in ActiveDirectory domains.
o Make sure all computers on which the avast! client is to be installed belong to the administrators group.
o In addition, all users need the right to "Log on as service".
    * Client deployment freezes at 70% and reboots
o Sometimes the installation of the avast! client completes sucessfully on the client computer but the status of the job is not correctly updated in the administration console.

User Interface

    * Some localized texts don't fit properly in the space available
    * Korean and Japanese characters are not displayed correctly in the installer if the required fonts are not installed on the computer.
    * The descriptions below the graphs and tables in the different language versions of the report file are in English.
    * All known issues with the installation on various platforms and OS language versions with various regional settings have been fixed. However, if you run into trouble, please create a forum post specifying what language/regional settings of OS you are using and we'll look into it.

Hopy you enjoy this

Cheers

Business Protection consist of "avast clients" and a central management console. However you are charged by "number of client". Therefore the principle is the same as it used to be with ADNM

Are we missing something here?

Is there a stand alone client that can be downloaded and installed without having to install the console?

Standalone client for what, exactly?
In case you want to use the Business Protection but do not want the console?

If we want to use only the server or for a small network with one server + 1 or 2 pc
Now it's more easy to manage with the console, but some costumer want only the standalone.

In addition, all users need the right to "Log on as service".

mean all users or only the administrator ?

If you don't need the central management feature, you may still go with traditional avast! products. The main difference BP products give users is, that they communicate with central management point.

This applies to the user accounts that are used for the unattended deployment feature. Usually you'll run this under the admin account, but the "Log on as service" right is not set by default even for admins.

@pascal.g: I think that you can install PRO, AIS or SERVER trial and insert license file for BP/BPP. The product should upgrade to BP/BPP or Server.

OK, but an avast! BP license are valid for a "traditional avast! product"?

If a have a customer with 5 PC and one server, customer doesn't want central management, can I offer:

6 aBP x 31.95 € = 191.7 €

Traditional avast! product:

1 aFSS x 359.00 = 359.00
1 aPro (pack5 ) x 58.82 = 58.82
TOTAL ............ 417.82 €

The different between "traditional" vs aBP is very expensive: more than 225.00 €

@edj I think aFSS and aMS have no market we will not sell it, we will sell only aBP and aBPP.

pascal.g I'm agree with you  ;)

This is our idea, to sell only aBP and aBPP to SMB.

But the question is "aBP license is valid for an unmanaged environment"?

There are a lot of SMB that don't want a console, but the don't want to pay 359.00 € to protect their server.

we currently have 10 standard suite licences and 16 pro licences. (so that we can get the server protected)

whats our options to get BP?

edj, may be like avast! standard suite pack. I think we should move this discussion to reseller forum :)

I understand I can't run Unattended deployment on computers non-members of a domain, does it mean that I can't install BP software on those computers at all, manually installing some "netclient" on each computer?

No, there are still other deployment methods as discussed in business protection admin guide. See section 6, deployment jobs.

Hi all,

in case the customer does not need the central admin console, we can offer the IS.

But if he has a server, I agree it is quite expensive to purchase the standalone server edition, considering also that he has just a few machines. Then I'd go for the IS, and separately I'd offer the standalone server license with a good discount. So the final price IS + server would be attractive.

ciao chris

Hi Impuls,

Frankly speaking we are doubt about this statement,

But we just try to deploy with push installation on workgroup (not Active Directory) computer, and it can work smoothly.

From SBC we can set Push Deployment :

1. Jobs >> Scheduler >> Create a new scheduler
2. After prompted a new windows, you may put a description as you wanted
3. Then other menu on details, you may defined Job Type: Deployment and Job Selection : Unattended Depolyment
4. Please defined your username and password for computer target
5. Then defined your computer target name

After that you may push ease deployment.

cheers,

All I want to know is can I download the new ABP stuff and replace my current ADNM and pro clients, or will my customers have to pay for an upgrade or buy the new product in entirety?

I'm confused  ???

Hmm,

Where does my existing "Avast! Small Business Server Standard Suite" fit into all of this?

ABP or ABPP?

I assumed that the upgrade would be included within my present license agreement, but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent product.

I'm also confused...

Stephen
