Title: Rollback during the installation, no logs
Post by: avadas.de on August 03, 2011, 01:57:14 PM
Hi,

one customer has a problem that his SBC installation gets rolled back for no reason. However he also can't grab the log file, since its wiped as well during the rollback from C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Administration Console\

Is there any other way to see why there is a rollback?

Hello,

The log files are located in the following directories:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Administration Console\Logs - WinXP/2k3
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Administration Console\Logs - Win Vista/7/2k8

Regards

Those dirs have also been deleted with the rollback.

does the rollback happen when there are buttons clicked after notification something went wrong?  if so dont click anything when the notification is there and fetch the logs first

Hi,

there is no prior notification before the rollback occurs.

at what point does the rollback happen?
what is in the windows eventviewer?

can you start installation and have the log directory opened already and quickly copy any files that get created there before they get lost (if they get created)?

Hi,

there seems to be nothing in the Event Viewer and the rollback happens after everything is configured and the files/services/reg entries are being installed. You can not grab the files because it happens to quickly and if you take them too early, you don't get the error.

Is it possible to run the installation in some kind of debug mode or save the log files elsewhere, where they are not deleted by the rollback procedure?

Does your client try to install using a (dedicated) remote database server?

Right now im trying to install SBC using my dedicated database server and receive the rollback too, except my logfiles stay so i can read them.

What OS is used to install SBC on?

Hi,

I have to ask the customer again, if he is using a remote database. He is using Win2k8R2.

What is the reason for the rejection of the remote database server in your log files?

Hi,

the SBC is using a local SQL installation, but maybe a problem could be that both 2005 and 2008R2 SQL servers are installed on that machine. The user made a screenshot, I will attach it to this post.

well i just posted a new thread with which i believe to be a related problem.
I have a rollback too when using the option for existing database.

I can imagine that having 2 types of database servers on 1 machine can cause a problem for your client as well.

Is there a reason that there is 2005 installed? Maybe the db in this instance can be migrated to the 2008 r2 express instance and remove the 2005 instance.

Hi,

the IT service company said, that they made successful installations at other customers and never experienced a problem, but at this point the customer is pressing to hard and they will switch to another AV solution :/

Why not just send them here: http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit

Hi,

because the decision has been made anyway, their customer don't want to wait any longer.
