Title: SDHC Memory Card
Post by: Avastfan1 on August 04, 2011, 12:48:43 PM
Dear Forum,

Why does a 4GB SDHC AGFAPhoto memory card not function with a Hama USB 2.0 Card Reader?

The card reader is recognised as a device on two separate computers (XP and Window$ 7).

The card reader can read a memory stick pro card (MS/MS Pro/Duo/Duo Pro slot).

The card reader blinks when the 4GB SDHC AGFAPhoto memory card is inserted, but the computer cannot read the card.

Any advice, suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

Best wishes,

Avastfan1

I haven't got the slightest idea, but perhaps for the same reason some cameras can't use SDHC (SD High Capacity) they are only compatible with the standard SD card. Plus in your list of what it can read, SD doesn't even get a mention ?

I have the sneaking suspicion that the card reader is not SDHC compatible.

Next to the four slots, it has 'SM, XD, CFI/II, MD/MStore, miniSD, SD/MMC, Duo, DuoPro, MS, MSPro.

On the manufacturer's website, the specifications of the card reader are not stated.  >:(

Update: I have now tested the card reader with more cards.

1: The original SDHC card (4GB) cannot be read.
2: An additional SDHC card (4GB) cannot be read.
3: A SD card (256MB) can be successfully read.

Is this conclusive that the card reader cannot read SDHC cards?

A friend swears that the first card above (SDHC 4GB) was able to be read for two years.

Thank you.

Yes that is fairly conclusive - that the SD High Capacity isn't supported or rather the compression required to squeeze the data on to the chip.

A question to pose to AGFA since this sounds like they may have done something
special to that memory card.
