Hi pavels,

just a short question about the version numbering. You are speaking of the console version 1.0.888.19, the installer however shows 1.0.41755 in the welcome dialogue. Which one is correct (or is BP client 1.0.888.19 and the console 1.0.41755) or are the mirrors not fully updated?

Arrgh, I really hate the numbering model...
avast.de is right - externally the number has been "cut" to two dots. 1.0.888.19 => 1.0.41755

I DL'd and applied.    No issues other than a momentary "Mirror could not download..." error.  THis went away after the reboot.

I'd be really curious to see an exact list of "installation issues" that were fixed with this release.   I didn't find release notes or open/closed caveat list for this package...    Is there one available?

OK, I'll try to list the fixed installation issues
1, [server/console] installer didn't worked because of "broken/missing" vbscript.dll - user couldn't continue with the installtion of SBC
2, [server/console] corrupted jscript.dll causing that users couldn't reach the admin. console with https
3, [server/console] service didn't start because of bug in service dependencies
4, [server/console] SBC server doesn't listen to IP anymore but uses "network adapter" - fixed problem with SBC server changing IP address
5, [client] fixed issue with firewall driver after upgrade from AIS -> BP on 64b OS
6, [client] BPP/BP client can be installed without AvastNet service (unmanaged)
7, [server/console] disable 'require SSL' for our IIS folder
8, [server/console]fixed small glitch in access rights
9, [server/console]use system account for SQL services on domain controller, don't continue if SQL installation fails
10,[server/console] more precise system launch conditions better install conditions of prerequisites

Im restoring my fileserver right now for deploying the SBC again using a remote database server.
Does this actually solve the roll-back issue using a remote db server?
if not im not going to test it

Hi wpn,

according to one of our users, it worked with the new build on a machine, where it failed before. I suggest you test it.

I may be missing something, but with this new release, did we lose the ability to disable the AntiSpam Shield from BPP?

I cant seem to find it where it was before.  Network => Group Settings => Shields

im still getting a premature ending with rollback

maybe im overlooking something in the logs but i dont see any error indicating any error causing a rollback, so i figure its still the same problem as before with the remote database server issue

i cant upload the mirror log because of the 192K limitation of the forum.

the database is present in the database btw.

Could you try to "clear" cache of your browser? And check that your license is BPP, please (Admin > Subscription)

I've cleared the cache and have tried multiple browsers (Firefox and Chrome) from multiple machines.  But under Network => Group Settings => Shields, there is no option to disable the AntiSpam Shield as there was in the previous release of the SBC.

The new version supports standard Windows Installer logging. You can use this command line for verbose log of all information:
setup_console_bp.exe /L*V C:\setup_console_bp.log
It will tell us what action has failed.

and the license?

Sorry, I forgot to answer that part of your question.  Yes, the subscription reports Business Protection Plus, as does the title banner at the top of the console's web portal.

im logging in from home right now to create the log files and post them here

if they are too big either ill cut them up in parts or email them to: ??

just bare with me....
im at home in a virtual machine, connected via vpn, started a rdp session to my restored fileserver where i started a new rdp server to be able to edit my restored database server
(restored as in test environment)

version: 1.0.41755 according to the install wizard

ps: no offense, but i will filter the passwords which are saved plain txt in that logfile ;)

The log is over 800K in size, cant attach it. After my censoring it still contains company network sensitive information so i will only e-mail/upload it to avast not on a public site.

running the cli elevated so the installer is elevated automaticly

I will start the same setup but going for a local database install to see if the same errors occur

This is the problem:
Code: [Select]
CustomAction StartMainService returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
Unfortunately the 1603 is not quite actual error code so I can only guess that there is still a problem with service dependencies. We
will try to simulate it here.

how come its not the actual code (yes im ignoring the remark in the error line) and how can i get the real code or do i need to do something else for debugging?

i do not believe it will be hard to simulate since it happens in all installations i tried from the copy

any insight on a fix date?
my temporary license will expire this month so i have 2 options

1) go ahead buy the licenses, install a temporary new server (with a license that i dont have) with local db until the BUG is fixed
2) get another temporary license from avast until the bug is fixed

Sadly, I'm still having the same problem with the latest build.

Here is our environment:

Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition (32-bit)
   Service Pack 2
   Member of SBS 2003 domain

Here is my installation process:
   - Avast 4 Server Edition was previously installed but removed through the Programs and Features control panel.
   - Rebooted.
   - Ran aswClear Uninstall Utility.
   - Rebooted.
   - Ran CCleaner to clear temporary files and orphaned registry keys.
   - Logged in as domain administrator.
   - Launched Avast Business Protection as administrator.
   - Setup installs IIS and Silverlight.
   - After prerequisites are finished, the "Could not access VBScript run time for custom action" appears.
   - Clicking the Finish button repeats the same VBScript error.

Corrective steps taken thus far:
   - Reregistered VBScript.dll
   - Verified VBScript and JSScript are not registered under HKCU.
   - Ran system file integrity check (sfc /scannow).
   - Ran check disk (chkdsk c: /v /x /f).

Attached are screenshots of the errors and setup logfile.

I re-ran the installer with verbose logging.   Attached is the resulting log file.

Does it work when you start some VBS file from Windows Explorer ?

and the license?

Sorry, I forgot to answer that part of your question.  Yes, the subscription reports Business Protection Plus, as does the title banner at the top of the console's web portal.
hmm, I can see those firewall and antispam shields in my installation... But it's fresh installatiom. What was your steps? Have you installed first trial (1.0, maybe BP?), then inserted license for BPP. And then updated to 1.0 SP1?

Yes -- both from Windows Explorer and from elevated command line.

Samples attached.

Is there any way for the SBC to auto-update itself the way the clients do?  Or will this always be a manual process of downloading files and applying?

When I install it (I have a Small Business Server license with 20 workstatons) it does not give me access to the Exchange Anti-Virus portion. How can I fix that?

http://server/Avast/Service.aspx will use unencrypted (unsecure) connection from the Administration Console UI (browser) to the server, it's kept in place for debugging and troubleshooting purposes and should be used at your own risk.

http://server/Avast/Default.aspx should perform encrypted (secure) connection and should be used in preference if possible. Nevertheless, it obviously don't work at your environment. Could you please provide more details about the actual problem (error the browser reports, attach the service log file, etc....)?

SBS 2011 + SQL (both Hyper-V Guests) on Premium SBS addon. 28 workstations. BPP Console deployed on a Win 7 Pro workstation (with IIS installed). Everything was working fine on original release and clients all happy with 1226 engine.

Upgraded Console to SP1 overnight- all seemed to go well. Pushed out 1253 (from 1226) to clients after console update. All seemed to go well. But the next day... all hell broke loose:

We noticed the following:
1. Settings created in console for groups are lost- although groups are retained, we had custom exclusions setup and these were all LOST after the console update.
2. After pushing out 1253 we noted the Firewall TAB is missing on the Servers, and now all the other unwanted shields are back (after disabling some of them prior to console update)
3. Our whole network went into meltdown after the console update and subsequent push of 1253- all but one of our clients running MS SQL server client app experiencing constant pauses (hourglass) and general slowness (only 1 pc out of 28 okay after 1253 update). Disabling all shields made no difference- the only way we could get things back to normal was to UNINSTALL all avast BPP on all clients to get things back to normal.

Still not sure what changed from 1226 to 1253 or if this is as a consequence of losing all the settings for the Default and custom groups in BPP console- or if the 1253 shields are too aggressive?

Only a few days left in the trial and the customer is pretty unimpressed so far with the issues- not sure if we can make the sale stick after today's debacle and lost time and support bill running around manually uninstalling on all clients.

Customer's comment- this stuff behaves like 'BETA' and 'Are you sure this product is right for a corporate environment?- I have heard avast is for HOME users.'

I must admit- seeing a SP1 released so suddenly after the golden does concern me about 'corporate readiness'. I'm not sure what to try next- I don't have much time left to convince the client to move away from Trend to avast!. Any ideas on appreciated.

FW component shouldn't be at servers.
What are the other "unwanted shields"?

This is unfortunate. It means that all 27 computers slowed down? Wasn't there a scan running?

There is "Uninstall Job" in the Console.

Excellent, but this does point to inadequate testing- it is bad for everyone to find out this stuff in a live environment- although I do acknowledge - "Stuff happens"

No FW at servers makes sense- but why was it installed on previous build?
We don't want or need P2P shield for example on servers- again doesn't make sense to install this on our production servers.

3. Our whole network went into meltdown after the console update and subsequent push of 1253- all but one of our clients running MS SQL server client app experiencing constant pauses (hourglass) and general slowness (only 1 pc out of 28 okay after 1253 update). No scan running. After further analysis it seems the only pc unaffected by 1253 update was a new install (not an update like the other 26 from 1226)- so on first glance it would appear that the update failed on all pc's- clean install went okay? More testing needed to confirm this. We will try reinstalling latest build 'downloaded from http: console installer' on one pc today to see if the problem persists.

Only a few days left in the trial and the customer is pretty unimpressed so far with the issues- not sure if we can make the sale stick after today's debacle and lost time and support bill running around manually uninstalling on all clients.

This is good to know, but given we did not know then and still don't know what was causing the issues - doing a mass uninstall of AV across all computers seems a little drastic and as the client commented- leaves them without ANY AV protection throughout the whole org.

When is there a new installer coming which solves the problem with the rollback when using a remote database server??

I cannot install and deploy the SBC in my production environment because of this problem.

We too are waiting!

If you could give us an ETA on this fix it would be much appreciated ... we are holding up our Windows 7 deployment for this version of Avast.

Hi,

a customer asked if there are any settings related to the time zone of scheduled scans. When he schedules the scans for clients (all in German time zone), he has to schedule them 2 hours earlier then he actually wants to run them. Seems a time zone problem to me. He said that he set the time zone settings to Germany in the server itself.

Additionally there is no 24h format available in the reports, it's only 12am/pm.

The "Could not access VBScript run time for custom action" error:  I had this same issue on an SBS2008 server.  In reading the notes of this post, I noticed that the same steps were taken.  Specifically that Avast 4.8 was removed on both this server and mine.  I thought that maybe that could be the issue, and it was.  I reinstalled the server version of 4.8 on my SBS2008 and launched the BPP installer without issue.

Summary - if you remove 4.8 you will get that VBScript error installing BPP.
