I mean is this normal? I hear that there is 505 build (i'm using build 504),but when i connected to net,avast! didn't notify me about this.
I'm using ADSL (PPPoE). This is ADSL connection which requires dialup similar login.
Program update is set to "Ask when available"
I only connect to net using dialup is unchecked
My computer is permanently connected is also unchecked.
Should i change my settings or am i missing something?

I got the 505 already. But isn't it so that Alwil now spreads the distribution of new versions out over a week to spread the server load? (new program versions that is)

Well if i try to update manually i get cannot contact server error grrrrrr.
If i ping cat.asw.cz i get response,but if i ping its IP i get no response.
Whats wrong!?

Did you try Manually? you might have just missed it automatically, with the way the updater works. ???

I've got notification as usuall (PUSHED UPDATE), installed it without any problems, asked me to reboot the system... rebooted, and everything seems perfect...

I am also using ADSL (PPPoE), but I'm connecting through my router, so I don't have to dial, enter my password and blah, blah, blah... I am connected 24/7, and if sometimes for any reason I turn off my computer, next time when I log into Windows, my connection is right here... I just have to open my mail client or IE, or whatever...
Btw, "My computer is permanently connected" is checked here.

Strange. I forced avast! to restart with my AEC and all the sudden it updated without any problems automatically.
Oh well.
Does this blue box about new version popup only once or more times (if you have set to Ask if available) ?

I think beta version are not annouced as normal program updates as the users of the version 4.1 should not update it 8)

Well, I'm telling you I've got e-mail notification (pushed update) + avast! notification blue window from the system tray...
RejZor is not 4.1 user. If I remember well, he is using 4.5 beta from the very first day (just as me)...

I'm not saying that he's not using 4.5 beta.
I'm trying to say what I think it's the procedure: avast 4.5 beta have not push program updates as the database of users will include 4.1 and 4.5.
Are you sure your e-mail notification does not refer to the VPS update? I received one today ::)

Yes, that e-mail notification (push update) was regarding VPS, but I also received Blue Window from system tray telling me that new program update is successfuly downloaded...

Although it is not actually necessary for these beta builds (when only about 50+ people are involved), it is extremely necessary for regular builds and this is why the feature is there even in the betas (to be tested).

Aha,so this will only be during migration from 4.1 to 4.5 or will this policy stay forever? I know program updates aren't so important,but i usually like to have everything up to date.

Even though I cannot speak for Vlk ;), I'd say it will depend on current situation. For 4.1-->4.5 transition it's necessary, but I guess it won't be necessary for small updates afterwards (e.g. when a bug is discovered and we want to distribute the fix quickly).
The parameter ("how long the update notification is spread") is stored inside VPS - so we can easily change it when needed.

Ok,now this is not normal. Today i started PC,connected to net and got red popup that avast! cannot contact cat.asw.cz (again). Why am i getting this error? Is server not online?

Getting exactly the same error. At first I thought it was because I repaired Avast via Add/Remove last night and the servers.def file might have reverted to the original, with links for updating the standard version, but I checked its contents and it seems to be OK. ???
Oh, and something I also noticed (and apologies if it's OT) - after repairing Avast, the Mail Protection Wizard shortcut disappears from the Avast folder in Start Menu. I added it back manually, but it would be nice if it didn't go away in the first place, as it's quite convenient. :)

Yes this is "normal".
The server is being upgraded so it's going to have some downtime. I hope it will be up'n'running in a couple of hours.

Eddy, what is this conversion program? I suppose the final user (us) can't use it to 'change' forum appearance but just Alwil... ::)

I think we deserve to have new face of these forums... everyone needs some change occasionally... I would like to see new design of these forums.

Its more of whats said that important i think, it is primararly a support forum after all, but new look wouldn't go a miss, mabey a random look everytime u log in or something.

And thats' exactly why I think we deserved better looking forums, more modern... we provide good help. We have so many members with great computer knowledge - someone's speciality is hardware, someone else's is security, firewalls, routers, antivirus software, antispyware... no one knows everything, but that's why we feel like we are one great family. We help each other and we jump in if someone needs help. I one doesn't know the answer, there is always someone else who will help a friend when it's needed. We cover every single area, so it would be great if we get "new house". ;D

Yes, we deserve a new room with useful features: possibility to show posts in reverse way, see the unread posts of all avast forums and/or selected ones, hide/show signatures and avatars, quick reply option, etc. etc.
But Pavel said this is not on the plans :'( :-\ :(

Please note that SMF is still in beta/rc phase and as such, shouldn't be used in production environment.
We'll update the forum software to SMF as soon as it goes gold (should be before xmas).

Great news !!! Finally forums will look better. It's almost the same story like with AVG. That's not bad product at all, but it's design is horror. I think if we screen-capture it, we could transfer AVG's main window to ZX Spectrum (8 standard colors) without any loss in color palette ;D ;D ;D

Firefox has a spell checker extension, IE has a plugin IE Spell, so there are some options out there. Are there no plugins for your browsers?

Technical It's working fine in GreenBrowser which is also IE based.
(As a matter of reference, it suggested that I change GreenBrowser to Green Browser.
