hi,
my avast for linux used to work fine. some update now has given me an error message:
'An error occurred in avast! engine: Invalid argument'
i have followed the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=57775.0
here is a screenshot of my modification of this file. (below)
i still get the same error.
could somebody help me fix this? thanks

my fault. i should have kept it simple, and fortunately the fix was.
all i did was open up and terminal and become root:
sudo su
i gave my password, of course. then put in the command given by zilog
sysctl -w kernel.shmmax=128000000
avast GUI popped right up.
thanks guys (and especially zilog, sorry for the clutter :-)
this thread has been solved. ejames82

Thank You for keeping this post going!
I just downloaded avast free for Linux and ran into the this install problem. This is clearly the best, most recent and simplest solution for the problem.
But I do have a question: How come if this has been going on a while, nobody ha put it where you first download the install package?
I'd of been glad to run these simple commands, if I'd only known....
Thanks for great software! Rick :-)
