Title: Network Shield Blocking all Connections
Post by: jouno53 on August 30, 2011, 04:21:17 PM
Hello, I have Avast Internet Security v. 6.0.1203 and am experiencing an issue where the Network Shield is blocking all connections to and from my computer. Avast cannot update, nor can I connect to any web page. This occurred randomly, as it was not happening yesterday and just started once I turned my computer on today.

So far I have tried rebooting the computer and doing a full uninstall/reinstall of the software. Neither of these resolved the issue.

I had to disable the Network Shield to go onto this forum.

I appreciate your help in finding a solution.

Any other security program? Which was your antivirus before avast?
Is your computer virus clean?

I can remember problems with download.com when avast itself used a stub installer (presumably and not cnet), not downloading the full installation file and that caused lots of problems with on-line installs.

I did some shouting about it as it failed to take account that installing a security application on-line not off-line, means that you either go on-line with no protection (you uninstalled your previous AV) or you went on-line with the protection of your existing AV.

Both of these scenarios bring their own problems, either the possibility of getting infected whilst on-line without protection or problems with failed installs or conflict from the existing AV.

We saw lots of this in the forums, it was some time ago, so perhaps the memories have faded.
