Title: bug: avastsvc.exe constant high cpu load for more than 30 minutes now
Post by: toonuts on September 03, 2011, 06:37:51 AM
avastsvc.exe keeps interfering with a 7z file archive after uTorrent has finished downloading it even though avast has been told not to scan large files even from p2p sources.

info about the file that causes the issue: the wikileaks .7z cablegate archive, 557mb compressed, about 60 gigabytes when uncompressed

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:AUHKVFRXREM7DCVK54MBDBGHQNPHLG5J

when uT finishes with the download avast takes over and gets stuck scanning this huge file. (remember it's ~60 gigabytes when uncompressed)

At this point disabling all the shields in avast does nothing whatsoever, avastsvc keeps sucking 50% cpu (this on a dual-core machine). The only way to stop it is to stop completely the avast antivirus service via services.msc

557mb compressed, about 60 gigabytes ?
That sounds like a decompression bomb.
And ofcourse it takes a long time to scan the file.
I doubt that avast is stuck.
It is just busy scanning the file.
